I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

When I started working for the company I work for now I had to bring my own computer.

That was back in the 90's but it hasn't gotten much better.

You hauled in your Gateway 550 and 19" CRT monitor into work every morning?
Must have been tiring!

No it was a custom built to order laptop.
Back then there was a street in Anaheim that had nothing but tiny little computer stores
I had one of them build me a laptop. They used the same components as Dell.
I paid $2K for it.. The same machine from Dell was $4400.
I've still got it, though I haven't turned it on in years.

I remember I went to the Gateway store in Flint, financed a 550Mhz computer with a whopping 20Gb hdd, 256MB of RAM for a grand total of $2550.
No video card because they really didn't exist back then. Then a year or 2 later I bought the VooDoo3DFX card that gave me 256MB of GPU ram.

I was stylin!

That laptop I bought had an ATI video card cause I didn't know any better.
That's how I got on eMC.. I signed up looking for help with that video card.
I ended up running a software patch that spoofed the ATI card... and it ran Mastercam OK after that
I was just running simple lathe and mill stuff back then and that laptop served me well.

The first real PC I bought was an IBMXT running DOS2.0 with a 10 meg hard drive.
I thought I would never fill that monster HD up... and I never did.

Back then, PC's were advancing so quickly that a new PC was obsolete by the time you got it home and took it out
of the box.

I'll tap the 3 phase transformer from our mothballed RA-3G if I need more juice than the PCI-E rail can supply.

Hey. I bought a 5160 case with PSU a few years back, beauty condition, cost me like 200 bucks CAD. Still amassing the shekels required to turn it into a sleeper gaming rig. Since the bolt pattern for an ATX board is designed after the XT mobo, anything will fit.

It was a Quadro K4200 which was introduced in 2014.
Our IT guy didn't shop around. He bought one from Amazon

More on the dead BOXX.
IT guy put the new Quadro card in and it ran OK for two days then it crashed.
When we restarted it failed to load bios and threw an over temp alarm.
I pulled the air cleaner and side cover.
We bought this machine in 2014 and I don't think it had ever been cleaned.
edit...  and it has been powered up 24/7/365 since day 1
The radiator fan blades had a .06" of greasy black dust on them and could barely turn.
IT guy installed a new fan and it's running like a top now.
We've got a dozen+ BOXX machines here dating back to 2012 and this is the first actual repair
we've ever had to do on one of them.... and I put this failure down to gross negligence.
