Quote from: TSmcam on September 30, 2024, 11:59 AMBeing from (way) outside the USA, it is kind of a rite of passage that if you travel to Southern California, one of the first stops is Disneyland.

We did that back a few years ago. Dang, I think it was about ten years ago. It was fun at the time, but I agree, it makes you bleed money. And then bleed more. Would I do it again? Nah... We went to Universal Studios in Florida a couple of years later. Still expensive but more fun. But, again, I wouldn't do that again.

I had more fun visiting vintage aircraft museums  :D

you didn't have a bunch of little kids in tow, screaming "Daddy buy me..."
You end up with a $1000 worth of useless crap that goes into a closet for 10 years and then straight to the trash
during a spring cleaning.

Quote from: gcode on September 30, 2024, 11:53 AMThere is Disneyland in Anaheim Ca and Disney World in Orlando Fl
Both are hellish expensive and both have their own weather issues.
I think Disney World is bigger, has more to see and is probably much more expensive.

True.

But Disneyland has 5 more rides than Disney World.

Back in the Day. Disneyland was a Magical Place.

You could get a stamp and Re-enter.

They had two areas near the parking lot where you could Pic-a-Nic and save money.

Bring your own Coolers (No Alcohol)

Also RV parking so No Hotel needed for Multiple Days.

Second Day Free Pass.

And if you were a Cali resident. (Electric Bill and such) you got a reduced Price.

Back then It was (Family Oriented) :D

If you stayed at the Hotel you got into the Park two hours early and stay one hour late.

They have learned to squeeze every Dollar.

And Fuck The Family. Unless you adopt a Drag Queen. SMH. :(

I still know people that work part time at Disneyland just because employees get in for free.
They aren't working for the part time paycheck, they are working free admission.

No, but I had two older teenagers, and one that ate like there was no tomorrow. Though to be honest, when we went to NYC, he got the taste of steak there. $$$ LOL

Thankfully we came away from Disney with not much crap. I think I bought a Mickey Mouse baseball cap and that was it. The food there was meh. We dined far better elsewhere in Southern California (Wilmas Patio on Balboa Island was great :) )
CNC Softwares own 'lil piece of Poison Ivy.

Back in the 80's a yearly pass for two Cali residents was about $500

No I'm glad I came. I'm going to have to do some laundry though,I'm going through twice as many clothes as I thought. And you still get in early if you stay on the property.

Little guy was taller lying down?

BTW my family took me and my sisters there in 1960. I was 4 years old and I loved it.

All this reminds me of my old business partner.
He was just returned from the Korean War, newly married and living in Garden Grove, California.
He was always telling the story about the day Walt Disney himself knocked on his door.
He was going door to door in Anaheim and Garden Grove, trying to raise money to build Disney Land.
The financial world thought he was a joke trying to build an amusement park in the middle of hundreds of square miles
of orange droves out in the sticks of Orange County.

My partner sent him on his way.
He thought the guy was a  nut/conman and the minimum buy in was $5K, an impossible sum for a freshly discharged sailor and brand new mailman with a baby on the way.
That $5K investment would be worth millions today.

Walt would roll over in his grave if he could see what his life's work has become. :'(

Indeed. And when Roy tried to steer them back he was run out of the organization.

Disney is now just a haven for morally bankrupt degenerates and sexual deviants.

We were in universal studios last year.  That Velocicoaster was a MF!  By far the baddest roller coaster I've ever been on.  We went the next day at opening just to ride it twice in a row.  My 11yo daughter is a dare devil...

Aside from the weather Disney World was great. One of my favorite things was hearing the languages from all over the world. It was like checking out of reality for a week. They have people in white suits just waiting for a bit of trash to ground.
The employees are all friendly to the point of being creepy.

You just have to remember that disney world is a milking machine and your wallet is the cow. And much of the food sucks.
