These are the reasons we disagree with Neurosis. Ask me anything.

We know how many bathroom passes he got in Elementary School.

What we ALL need to know in the interests of full disclosure is who Kamala Harris slept with and what benefits she got for doing so.

We know about Willie Brown... how many college professors though and whom else?

It's not worth it.
Family is important. My wife and I are products of divorced parents. We vowed to do whatever it took to make sure our kids did not have to know that pain.

And then....is it really true?

Quote from: Incogneeto on October 19, 2024, 02:19 PMYou are wrong.

I want you to vote who you believe in.

If you said Hillary , or Harris at least I knew.

You hang in between.

you stand for no one.

Which to me is a worse fate. :(

Vote for who you believe in? Unless it's not one of the two main candidates?

I don't believe in either of these two clowns. Voting for one of them would make me a hypocrite.

Quote from: CNCAppsJames on October 19, 2024, 04:34 PMThe REALLY suck thing in al this... there's 3 grandkids involved that my wife and I adore.

This is a pretty serious subject and I didn't want to comment on this too much last night.

I think that when we're young we don't really see things through a clear lens. Hopefully, after some time passes, he will figure things out. There are people out there that have it a lot worse.

Depression is pretty serious.  Diabetes is serious too, but depression requires some mental support.

I wish you the best on repairing this relationship. Sorry that you're going through this.  Sorry for him too.  :(

The reason I put "depression" in quotes is because I don't think he was. At least in the clinical sense. My wife first noticed something was definitely wrong ~ January 2nd or 3rd after he got home from.the Rose Parade.  He was exhibiting symptoms we later found out were T1 onset symptoms (which also are similar in nature to depression). Sweet smelling breath is like the easiest thing to check, and the PA didn't even do a spot glucose check. Took him tonthe doctor around the 6th IIRC. That PA that did the initial exam  was terminated from our Family Physician's practice a few days after my son was in ICU... (January 12th-ish) with a glucose reading over 720.

Anyway after we got his blood sugar under control (4 days in ICU and 2 days in the regular hospital) got him down to around 200 we watched him like a hawk. Looking for anything out of his ordinary.  We did expect some depression because his lifelong goal was to be a Marine Corps Sniper. With a T1 diagnosis, that was off the table forever. We expected depression. That is situational depression and will pass. Anyway, about 3-4 months later my best friend came to our Boy Scout meeting to talk about Sheriff Department opportunities and soon he had a new mission. Along with earning his Eagle Scout, he began the prep to get into Law Enforcement. By the time he earned his Eagle Scout rank he was an adult. By the time he was not selected for Law Enforcement (rejected by LAPD and LASD) for reasons we later found out related to his T1 condition (which is technically illegal), he was already engaged and we were no longer the primary influence in his life.

We.do hope he gains some clarity in the near future. Mynwofe and I are not getting any younger, and I do not expect to make it to average age. I partied WAY too hard in my formative years and the effects are beginning to show.

The REALLY suck thing is he and his wife have spread the venom to the siblings and even though to us they claimed "we don't want to get in the middle", they've done precisely that and have pulled back.

My wife and I have for some time believed his wife surffers from some sort of undiagnosed mental illness... it runs in her family, we can't say anything because it just fans the flames even more.

You try to raise strong and resilient kids.... but outside influences (positive and negative) get a vote.

All this to say, you can do everything right (not saying I did in hindsight, but I wouldn't change much... honestly if I had it to do over, I would have been more of a hardass despite my wife's protests  ) and still have troubles.

Humans are complicated organisms. You can do EXACTLY the same thing to two individuals and get two wildly different unexplainable results.

Exactly.

I hated my parents for a very good reason.

A disagreement on who's right about an argument over health issues isn't a good reason to disconnect from family.

The only thing I'll say about depression, is that it can end a life in a night. It is important.

Keep trying.  Don't be the reason you guys can't connect.

So Dave, have you realized yet that you are not allowed to have a thoughtfully rationalized and carefully examined and re-examined opinion on anything?

For if you do,. you're a fence sitter, you're liberal, a conservative, a bleeding heart, a MAGA supporter, racist, homo-lover, homo-hater, misogynistic, bedwetter....anything but a thoughtful individual.

Much as many would like to believe, life is not, nor was it ever, a simple yes or no proposal. Are there things that are that simple, yes of course there are...do you put ketchup on a hot dog?   Any answer other than NO! is wrong...

Is that a silly example, yes it is but many of the examples are when you peel back the onion that is life.

People are, not so much afraid, they are challenged by others who actually take the time to think through their own thoughts and come to a conclusion.  WHich by the way, many times, can change and evolve as the input points throughout life and information available change.

We are ever evolving...well, some any way.

Whatever we are or aren't, life is almost never a simple "yes or no" exercise.

Now back to my first full day of being 59 and my regularly scheduled Monday morning.

WOW...
11 pages since Friday and I missed it!

Good conversation, guys, and thanks to those who have shared personal stuff about family problems, past and present.
For some people, (men in particular) that is not always easy to do.

Yeah, we are a brotherhood here even though we disagree about many things and get on each other's nerves at times, and there is a good deal of ball-busting here on any given day.  But someone mentioned it earlier that if anyone on this forum had a real-life circumstance where they needed help, I believe everyone here would step up to the plate.
