I clearly stated that if Gaetz is prosecuted with real criminal charges and found guilty, he should face the consequences, but so far there is only rumor and hearsay, and yes, from one less than credible witness.

There were actually two, less than credible witnesses.

When someone has something to be gained from lying, like reduced prison sentences, money in your canteen account, preferential cell assignment,  etc... they are no longer a credible witness.  If the core accusations cannot be corroborated, then the case cannot move forward.

You are choosing to believe the trafficker over Gaetz. That is your right. That's not how the criminal justice system works though. Testimony, evidence, corroboration, if all those things align charges are brought. If the evidence is circumstantial,  then how much of it is? Is there enough circumstantial evidence to overcome the burden of proof?

Clearly not.

Chess indeed, and 3D chess at that. 

The Senate voted for their leadership by secret ballot.
Not unusual, but the skeptic in me thinks they don't want to show Trump their hand too early, i.e., those who voted for Rick Scott, the guy Trump publicly endorsed, would be considered pro-Trump allies.

But when the confirmation hearings start, the gloves come off and the votes are all on the record.

We already know RINOs Murkowski and Collins will be highly unlikely to sign off on ANY Trump nominees, so he knows he will only have a 2-vote cushion at best.

I think Trump threw a firebomb in the room on purpose with the Gaetz nomination just to see where he REALLY stands with the Senate, but we'll have to wait and see how it all shakes out.

If he does get confirmed, Trump knows where he stands, and if not, he knows his second choice will be almost automatic.

The art of the deal applies to politics just as well as it does to business, and is the one thing Trump has always been especially good at.
