Quote from: Jim at Gentex on November 18, 2024, 07:11 AMWell at least they figured out that staying in their own echo chamber for too long didn't work out so well.
We'll see if they are serious.

Many celebs have "abandoned" Twitter for BlueSky.
BlueSky announced a record number of reported posts. 40,000+ in one single day. Their average is 300k for a year.
They hate Twitter because it's not the echo chamber they are accustomed to having so they are making BlueSky their echo chamber.

Oh by the way, a lot of those reported posts contain child porn.  What a coinkydink!

Surely you guys see the irony here, talking about the left and their echo chambers.

I'll ALWAYS go back to this classic. How well it has aged is spooky really. Imagine the prescience of not knowing about generative AI, smartphones, or even social media and coming up with this in 1999-2001:

"In the current digitized world, trivial information is accumulating every second; preserved in all it's triteness, never fading, always accessible...
...The untested truths spun by different interests continue to churn and accumulate in the sandbox of political correctness and value systems. Everyone withdraws into their own small gated community, afraid of a larger forum. They stay inside their little ponds, leaking whatever "truth" suits them into the growing cesspool of society at large. The different cardinal truths neither clash nor mesh. No one is invalidated, but nobody is right."

I pulled it from the end of the monologue to create context here, but it holds up to this day, maybe more than ever.

Not really, they cannot handle people with a different opinion and want them banned and removed from X.
Musk won't do that so they're stomping their feet over to BlueSky where they can regulate different opinions, just like how Twitter used to be before Elon bought it.

Nobody here is wanting/asking for others to be banned or posts removed that I can see.

Apparently you have a different idea of what an echo chamber is than I do.

This is what I had in mind.

"In news media and social media, an echo chamber is an environment or ecosystem in which participants encounter beliefs that amplify or reinforce their preexisting beliefs by communication and repetition inside a closed system and insulated from rebuttal."

No, that's the same as I was describing when I was talking about the celebs moving to BlueSky so they don't have to see different opinions. And if they do, they can report them so they get removed.

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

To me, an example of an echo chamber would be a place, virtual or IRL where people who share the same basic ideas about a subject, say politics, talk about those ideas, talk about what they see as evidence to support those ideas and have little to no tolerance for those with different ideas.
