Well there's that. 😆

Quote from: Smit on December 10, 2024, 07:44 AMYa know, that is what we have right now. Everybody who is paying a premium is paying for the sick people who need care. That's what insurance is and does. And they need to be profitable too.

One way money is called taxes, the other way money is called premiums. $10 in taxes = $10 in premiums.

I would suggest if we were to devote the amount of money we currently spend on healthcare to Medicare for all it would be a better system just by cutting the insurance companies out.

In truth I think we'd end up spending less by a healthy margin.

Of course we'd then have to focus our attention on reform for healthcare costs like the $200 aspirins you get in hospitals, and tort reforms.

No easy fix for a complex problem.

If everybody is dug in to "we can't change because" we're going to always get more of the same shit we're all unhappy with.

I think the answer to this complex problem isn't going to happen with insurance companies in the mix.

So what do we do, when the hospital charges 200 for an aspirin? just build government hospitals? so then say we build government hospitals and the problem is the food industry is pushing too much sugar and fat, do we just make Government Food companies? But then the problem is the way the food is grown is unhealthy, so do we just create Government farms? Do you see what I'm saying? Where would you stop the government take over? where is the line?

Look. the Pentagon just announced that they are "hopeful" that they can pass an audit "if they try really hard" in 8 years.

the postage rate is going up much faster than inflation and all they do is pickup packages and deliver them somewhere else and the service keeps getting worse.

The government has been spending billions of dollars here to build wind farms and then they shut them down because of dead endangered bats.

The government has been subsidizing student loans and college education costs have sky rocketed. We created the department of education in the 70's and spent billions and billions and now look at what our reading and math scores look like. I just flat out don't trust the government to run health care for the entire nation.

I'm curious as to why insurance companies are the only ones being blamed. They are already limited to 20 percent for administrative costs and profit. What about the costs of things that hospitals charge and profits they make? Cost of prescriptions and medical devices? Insurance has to cover all these things in addition to visits and procedures.

For instance and this is personal experience. I called one time on a $275 copay for a colonoscopy after I had already paid a deductible for the procedure. I was told this was just for a person to read the results. It was like a thousand dollar charge to read it with my share being the 275. It's an added charge. Why does not the doctor who did the procedure just give the results? Hospitals do everything they can to charge the highest price possible. And it's not just for profit hospitals. The one we use is supposed to be non profit.

We pay more for most things than comparable countries. You can't just say insurance is the problem.

And gcode is spot on. Tort reform is needed across the board not just for medical lawsuits.

No need to be that specific, it applies to everything.

You guys are right. Nothing we can do.

Repeal Obamacare and go back to the good old days.  :)

There are protestors with posters and bumper stickers all over saying, "keep the government out of my vagina." But then they want medicare for all. it makes no sense. I know what they mean by it. They don't want government regulation with their healthcare choices, but then they want government run healthcare? just think about it.

As a percentage of income, insurance/healthcare costs before Obamacare were far less. So yes, even going back to before Obamacare would be better than where we are now.

Insurance won't cover that but it should be pretty cheap out of pocket. 😀

Do you think the Sons of Liberty, that committed the Boston Tea Party, are treasonous criminals or heroes that sparked the American revolution from tyranny?
