I rail against the all or nothing concept all the time, whether it be in cases like this, politics, or religion. People hear a concept such as, "a child that young could not make up something like that." and then extrapolate it into something it was never meant to mean, such as believe all minors.

this is how we got the concept of systemic racism, from the fact that there are individuals that are racist. But it has also manifested itself into extreme libertarianism.

Also there might be a story about some bad ceo or some bad company, and then that turns into hatred for Big AG, or Big Pharma.  People see stories in the news of a bad cop shooting and turn that into "Defund the Police."

This mentality of all or nothing is the central most polarizing concept in America.

It really does. I have a friend that is a priest that was accused of sexual misconduct. I've known him a long time. It was devastating. The allegations were proven to be untrustworthy.(too long of a story to type, but they are definitely untrustworthy) And he has been allowed to continue in his ministry, but to be honest, even though we are friends those allegations are always in the back of my mind when I'm with him.

It is ruinous to a person's life and reputation.

This has happened to a teacher in our school district and just what beej said is unfortunately the truth in that case. They wwere later cleared of all charges but that was after losing their job, reptation and confidence in the community. Even when cleared it left the doubt or fear of "What if"

Once that 'pedo' label is on you it's almost impossible to remove, even when it is proven to be a false allegation.
These stupid teen girls playing a stupid immature game don't realize they could have damaged someone permanently.
