Well, there you have it.  We're just too stupid to make smart choices so it would be better if those choices were removed and we let government make them for us.

Or put a different way - Because some people are too dumb to make smart choices, those choices should be removed from everyone.

There is some sarcasm there. The article appears to be an argument against deregulation and how it creates a burden of choice that many of us aren't prepared to handle.

QuoteSo the next time some politician tries to sell a new policy — typically deregulation — by claiming that it will increase choice, be skeptical. Having more options isn't automatically good, and in America we probably have more choices than we should.

QuoteWriting in The New York Times, Nobel Prize-winning columnist Paul Krugman offers a unified theory of everything wrong with America: We're just too free to choose.

Krugman says this is the lesson to be learned from last month's energy crisis in Texas that left some of the state's residents—people who had freely chosen to sign-up for variable rate offerings from their electric service providers—with sky-high bills when demand surged as the state's generating supply crashed. People can't be trusted to choose their electric service, he argues, because some will make ill-informed decisions that come with unexpected costs. From there, he expands this thesis to a general principle, one that he says is to blame for everything from rising health insurance premiums to the subprime mortgage meltdown of a decade ago.

My favorite line of the NY Times article -

QuoteBeyond all that, I'd suggest that an excess of choice is taking a psychological toll on many Americans, even when they don't end up experiencing disaster.

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

FWIW you could combine Krugman's Nobel Prize with Obama's and you still wouldn't be able to buy a cup of Starbucks' trendiest swill.

F'kin moron...

We need fewer choices?
Good.
I choose to continue to completely ignore Krugman's opinion on anything.  :harhar:

Once in a while he makes some good points. But they always lead to the same place.
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

It's Paul Krugman, the guy who has been wrong on almost everything.

Not much more needs to be said, he's an idiot

Krugman is a boil.

A final scene from one of my favorite films discusses Freedom of Choice.

All you have to do, is never do, or say anything and you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
