I've seen it everywhere since having a kid.

Do you know how many toddlers own ipads? It's a staggering majority of the other kids we know. Mine will never have a mobile device until 100% necessary for schooling, linked to negative correlations of brain growth and cognitive capacities. Each additional screen available for use piles on the risk factor. The blinking stops, mouth opens, doesn't speak, it's spooky to watch how immediate the change is when the magic box comes out to placate the brats.

10 years ago I watched a prog where a Murrican doctor was explaining all the rapid rise of cancer growths in 10, 11, 12 year old kids - lumps behind the ear from holding phone up and talking, and girls with lumps in their breast from carrying a phone in their breast pocket.
Surgeon said "when it finally comes out this will be worse than smoking"....

Many many kids see their parents do nothing in their free time but look at a screen of some sort. When we were kids (sorry about any age assumptions) that screen was a CRT. Today, it's a phone/tablet/laptop/etc.

I know a 15 year old autistic boy whose parents are that way, if not worse. The whole family treats him more as a curiosity than a human. He's very bright, which puts his parents at a disadvantage. He takes an interest in a subject and learns all he can about it online before moving on. The family treats him as if he were a puppy learning tricks.

We saw him over Christmas. He loves to see my wife because she will talk to him about his latest interest, especially math and science. I saw him working on a little tablet and it looked like he had some code up. I asked if he did any programming and we spent the next 30 minutes talking about a project he is working on. We could have talked longer but he was showing signs of becoming over stimulated so I moved on. I thoroughly enjoyed our conversation. His dad, who is constantly on his phone or lap top said something to my wife about me being "stuck with Eli". It really pissed me off. I know what it's like to be with family who treat you like an oddity. Eli told me that it was nice to talk about programming with someone who knows about programming. I thought how sad it was that he rarely gets to talk to anyone about the unique things that interest him; anyone who will listen, anyway.

And his parents home school him and his sister. I don't mean any slight to those on here who home school. Just like most things, it can be abused. IMO these people do it because they're lazy. So, he gets no socialization, which they both really need. Mom just plops them down on the computer for school and goes back to bed.

Anyway, enough of my rant.

That was Temple Grandin's parents. They finally sent her off to a relative's farm where she figured out cows. How they think, how they move, what they like, what they dislike. Her story is pretty amazing.

It's grooming (inappropriate use?) a generation of children who have no other ambitions or goals than to become an influencer?  Who's defending this idea?  People who stand to make money from it?
