Quote from: neurosis on January 30, 2025, 11:16 AMI've seen several reports now that are blaming DEI for the crash  :headscratch:

The WSJ just posted a not to flattering headline about Trump making baseless claims?
Also The Guardian
QuoteTrump took his anti-DEI stance a step further after a mid-air plane crash this week, suggesting baselessly DEI was to blame.

But we now know that DEI was at the very least a contributing factor to staffing shortages which most certainly led to one person monitoring the traffic two would ordinarily handle; aircraft and rotorcraft in the same space.

They changed the policy in 2018?  Thats a long time ago.
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

The SEAL Teams barely recovered a few years ago from Operation Redwings and Extortion 17... and those were 25 and 14 years ago respectively.

Reuters continuing their tradition of slanted reporting.

When an active duty Service Memeber dies and next of kin has been notified there's paperwork. In that paperwork the family is given a choice and it is COMPLETELY up to the family if they want their loved one's name released or not.

I know this because when I was coaching baseball, one of the league families I knew lost a son in Iraq. I spoke with the dad about that day. It was a heartbreaking but informative conversation.

Per the article, the name wasn't released at the families request.

I can see why they wouldn't want her name released. :(

But the way I read it, Reuters made it sound nefarious that the family didn't desire their loved one's name to be released. If I were writing the article I would have stated it this way;

The U.S. Army on Friday released the names of two of the three soldiers killed when the military Black Hawk in which they were flying collided with a passenger jet. The third name is being witheld by request of the family at this time.

Instead of this;
QuoteReuters - The U.S. Army on Friday released the names of two of the soldiers killed when the military Black Hawk in which they were flying collided with a passenger jet, but said, in an unusual decision, that they were not releasing the third name at the request of the family.

I'm ignorant as to what would be considered an unusual decision. I didn't put a lot of thought in to the wording. I just figured that the family didn't want a shit storm of reporters bothering them.

I've not been able to find any statistics on the percentages of families that choose to have the name of their deceased active duty loved one.

To me in this specific case it's a chkice of wording issue I have. I don't think the words were chose haphazardly.  The ONLY confidence I have in journalism schools today is that they stress the importance of language and work choices. Choice of wording can evoke emotions, push a narrative, highlight something of alleged significance. Admittedly I have a deep distrust of the media. ALL media. They have repeatedly lied and never held accountable for it. Or, when forced to print/state a retraction, it gets the least amount of attention humanly possible.

Now, in this case, I believe Reuters desired to highlight the point that the family chose to withhold the name of their loved one as if they did not believe it should be their right to do so, which it 100% is.

I am guessing the family does not want to be hounded by a merciless and immoral media.

The 3rd and final helicopter pilot's name was released.

I can think of a REALLY good reason to wait... they wanted to notify people/family before they heard it in the news. Of course I know nothing and this is pure conjecture.

I've already seen dozens of posts on facebook quoting The Gateway Pundit articles saying she was lesbian and then criticizing the family for not releasing her name.  :( It's pretty sad that this is the direction this is going to go.

Yesterday I saw dozens of posts pointing the finger at a transgender person who had to post a proof of life video proving that they had the wrong person.

I hope for the sake of the family that her death doesn't turn in to the circus I feel like it's about to become.

Lesbians been flying planes since WWII.

There is always a risk in waiting to disclose stuff. The conspiracies just run rampant.

It doesn't help the cause when the social media gets scrubbed either.

Simple terms.

I have watched my employer hire individuals that should not be on a Machine.

And then told me to Train them.

I have also had to call for medical personnel to treat their wounds.

Even if it was not a DEI Hire.

67 people are dead.

Male /Female doesn't matter , Equipped or Not Does.

Fuck DEI you want a Machinist you can trust as a programmer.

And more certainly a pilot. :)

Jeff

I saw an interview with a guy, I can't remember if he's a former ATC or a pilot.
He said that the reason they were short-staffed is because one of the ATC's requested to be sent home early for whatever reason and it was granted. So the other ATC had to do the work of 2 people.

Also the FAA changed the way that ATC's are trained. It used to be that when they have accumulated a set number of near-misses they have to be retrained. That was nixed.
I'm missing a lot of info here as I'm going off memory but that's the bulk of it.
