Quote from: beej on February 13, 2025, 08:47 AMLet's not forget the EU's and Ukraine's own role in this. How long has it been since Ukraine became independent? Why have't they spent more time and money increasing their military strength? How long did it take Israel to build it's own military strength after starting from Scratch in 1946? Compare that to Ukraine. Why didn't Ukraine weed out the corruption in it's own government to do what Poland did and become part of NATO? Yeah, it sucks for them now, but it would behoove us not to forget how they got there.  And the same goes with the EU. Who was Germany trying to get the bulk of the energy from just a few years ago? Russia. They could have bought that energy from a NATO country who is already spending money to protect them from the country they were planning on purchasing natural gas from, couldn't they?  I'm not sure if you have forgotten but when Biden told Ukraine that Russia was about to attack them, they didn't even believe it. Neither did the EU. It was the US and the UK  telling them they had better prepare. They made this bed they are lying in.

Wow, that's a nice looking word salad! Yummy! :)

I guess it's OK for Russia to attack whoever they damn well want and if they overwhelm somebody weaker it's the weaker parties own damn fault.

In a nutshell right? :headscratch:

BTW, did Israel have any help building their military? If so, from who?

Germany bought gas from the wrong country so fuck Ukraine.

Ukraine was famous for its corruption so that is the tomato on top of your salad.

If only Ukraine and the EU would have believed the US this could have all been avoided. Putin would have just called off his military. Like anybody ever believed anything Biden said anyway, right?  :hrhr:  That is the artichoke on the salad. I never have liked artichokes. Yuck.

And you left out the part where Russia was justified because all these countries were joining NATO made Russia feel threatened so they preemptively attacked Ukraine for their own survival. (Ironically, following the invasion of Ukraine Sweden and Finland joined NATO)

You're trying too hard Beej.

Well that's pretty much all the context you laid out.

But don't bother writing a book about it, it'll be TLDR.

To your point, I do think some (most?) people realize the world is not a black and white, easy to explain mess. The deeper you dig the more complex you find it.

Alright let's keep it short. After russia took Crimea and Georgia, what did Ukraine and the EU do to prepare for the fact that they might keep coming for more? should they have done more to prepare?

Many people were saying years ahead of the latest invasion that Russia was going to invade. It's not like anyone was surprised. But they didn't bother to prepare because they knew the good 'ol USA will protect them.  :horse:

Quote from: beej on February 13, 2025, 09:19 AMfacts are boring.

Well goddamn Beej. Obviously the EU and Ukraine should have built the strongest military the world has ever seen. Then nobody would have dared attack them and all their problems would have gone away.

Is that what you're looking for?

Because it's all been long planned out.
And despite all the noise, billions has been promised, continued to be promised, given and washed and
filtered through into all the accounts that it's destined for.

Going forwards, blackrock already "legally" given the rebuilding contract so 10bucks says Halliburton are rubbing their hands in anticipation, and Ukraine is selected and will be the "garden of europe" ie, all food crops will be grown there for the EU consumption.
Which is also why the constant attack on all farms and farmers to close them yada yada
Simple.

I've seen a lot of people flip flop on their support for Ukraine.  You've been consistent on this from the beginning.
