large majority of my friends worked in industries that were decimated by shut downs, and once they went back to work often had covid outrbreaks they had to work around. The stimulus was a godsend for them.  I think the salary caps could've been smaller, or frig, tied to average cost of living / wage - in california $1400 doesn't even cover a 1bedroom in the city

Yeah if you are a taxpayer, it is your own money being refunded to you.
I don't have a problem with receiving some of my own money back.
I do have an issue with these fools in Washington who will spend this money on everything but COVID relief for average working people, and others who need it most.
Retirees and disabled people who live on a fixed income need that stimulus money far more than bailing out failing cities who can't manage their own budgets.

That's all we have been doing since we went off the gold standard.
All fiat currencies are a house of cards, and the US Dollar is the biggest one on Earth.
The more you print, the less it is worth, but that hasn't stopped these fools in Washington.
