Quote from: neurosis on February 18, 2025, 10:41 AMI would classify it as Republicans pissing all over their principals and using whataboutisms to justify it.

That's a pretty accurate analysis.

Quote from: Del. on February 18, 2025, 09:51 AMOblige me and tell me one more time why you think what Trump is doing is against the constitution.

Here-

"A federal judge blocked Donald Trump's administration on Thursday from implementing the Republican president's executive order curtailing the right to automatic birthright citizenship in the United States, calling it "blatantly unconstitutional.""

And before anyone goes on about it being an Obama activist judge -

"The judge, an appointee of Republican former President Ronald Reagan, dealt the first legal setback to the hardline policies on immigration that are a centerpiece of Trump's second term as president."

Like we said over the weekend. This is going to have to play out in court but the precedence has already been settled. As you already know, this SCOTUS doesn't give a flying fuck about precedence.

Lets see what kind of shit storm that starts.

And here I thought we were talking about DOGE.... ::)

Remember the whole birthright citizenship thing was to BRING IT TO COURT. Let the courts figure out what is and isn't constitutional. But saying he's doing something unconstitutional is misleading.

Yes. If you remember, I said that I have no faith in this SCOTUS. That's why. Not that I wouldn't like to see it modified, but that's just my opinion.  I have my opinions on who shouldn't be allowed around firearms too. :D

If you get bored.

Quote from: Del. on February 18, 2025, 11:04 AMI remember that conversation. I thought you were talking about DOGE.

When you brought up Trump and constitution, I thought you were talking about Trump specifically.

To me, DOGE is more complicated because what they are doing is unprecedented. By EO, "Schedule F" allowed Trump to reclassify federal employees removing their civil service protections. I don't know who he's allowed to fire and who he isn't at this point. I don't know that DOGE can go in legally and just start gutting Federal Agencies (or accessing confidential documents) All of these things are supposed to be done by Congress, who they've literally just bypassed. There is a reason there have been around a dozen lawsuits filed and likely more coming.

What worries me the most, is that if this experiment goes awry, they're not going to be the ones dealing with the mess. It's going to be people who already can't afford their mortgages, medical bills, and groceries.

No.
Congress still has to approve it from what I gather. DOGE is just making the recommendations. AND along the way uncovering untold fraud and abuse of OUR TAX DOLLARS.

Seriously, how the hell is this even an issue? You're more worried about Elon Musk than what they've been using your tax dollars for?

A lot of them have 8 months pay plus benefits so they have time to find new jobs. That's very generous.

I am anxious to see what they do with the money they have found. All hell will break out if not used to help people that will improve their situations.

So they had approval from Congress to freeze funding? Or access sensitive data? Or lock Federal employees out of their computer systems?
