"A federal judge in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday rejected a request to temporarily block the Department of Government Efficiency from accessing data and cutting staff from seven federal agencies."

""The court is aware that DOGE's unpredictable actions have resulted in considerable uncertainty and confusion for Plaintiffs and many of their agencies and residents," she also wrote. "But the 'possibility' that defendants may take actions that irreparably harm plaintiffs 'is not enough.'"

Quote from: Jeff on February 18, 2025, 11:52 AMAs for who Trump can fire, he can pretty much fire any employee of the Executive Branch. Even those at federal agencies. He has the same power as any POTUS before him.
Yes and no.

He can't just summarily fire a single employee covered by a collective bargaining agreement for anything other than cause. He does however have much more lattitude when dismantling entire departments. It gets a little complicated.

That said, he IS the CEO of the Executive Branch and there is A LOT he can do wjrh that position. People think that just because it's neva been dunn befo that it's illegal which is also not necessarily true.

No, 150-Year-Olds Aren't Collecting Social Security Benefits

"Elon Musk has repeatedly claimed that his so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) project had uncovered massive government fraud when it alleged that 150-year-olds were claiming Social Security benefits.
But Musk has provided no evidence to back up his claims, and experts quickly pointed out that this is very likely just a quirk of the decades-old coding language that underpins the government payment systems."

Wired... those fucking clowns wouldn't tell the truth if you put a gun to their heads. The shit they heaped on Palmer Luckey when he separated from Farcebook was enough for me to put them into the Fake News category on important matters.

He definitely should provide documentation.

There are disclosure rules with such data. It's the big reason the talking heads in the media are making such a big deal for documentation; they know it's impossible to comply. Clever and stupid all rolled into one.

If DOGE were to disclose the individuals be they dead or alive (i.e. bring the reciepts) DOGE would be in violation of probably at least a half-dozen statutes.

I imagine the best they can do is show aggregated data like they have.

It would help if he were honest. This is the third time I've seen him called out for being less than honest in his findings. If he's not intentionally trying to be misleading, he should wait until he knows that what he's claiming is true.  In this case, a reporter looked in to his claims after seeing the list he posted and figured out that the math didn't add up. Musk, being the "genius" that he is, should have been able to figure this out himself?

I'm starting to think the same thing about Musk.

Condoms going to Hamas? The Politico and Reuters b/s. Now this? I think I read somewhere that a list is being compiled of Musks misleading statements.

Can you be more specific? I'd like to look this up and see if there more to it than meets the eye. You don't see wired getting caught up in false reporting controversies almost ever.

They may want to save that money. That doesn't even make a dent in the interest payment on the current US debt (678 billion). For that savings thousands of people lost their jobs. And no, they don't all get severance pay. Only the people who took the voluntary early payoff get paid for 8 months. From what I'm reading, the rest are just fucked. We have some local Federal employees that lost their jobs with no warning and according to them, will have nothing to fall back on.
