Quote from: beej on February 21, 2025, 09:51 AMThe one question that the Supreme Court hasn't answered yet, is whether the right of citizenship extends to parents that are here illegally. In Wong Kim Ark, the chinese parents were legal citizens. I suppose that it's worth asking the SC to decide on that.

I'll say it again. The only people I see saying this are Trump supporters and the chodes from the Heritage Foundation (big surprise there huh?)

"US Citizenship of Children Born to Undocumented Parents
Children born in the United States to illegal immigrant parents are still considered U.S. citizens under the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
This amendment provides birthright citizenship to anyone born in the United States, regardless of the parents' immigration status. However, this does not affect the legal status of the parents, who can still be deported."

"Neuman, an expert in immigration and nationality law, says that both history and Supreme Court precedent confirm an intent to grant citizenship to anyone born in the U.S. — regardless of their parents' legal status. Moreover, he adds, "The president of the United States has no authority to change citizenship rules at all.""

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

yes, well, imagine that! Trump got elected as president while promising to end it, so those "trump supporters" made up large percentage of the country. Democrats often talk about saving democracy, well there you go. The majority has voted.

My personal feeling is that the constitution says what it says. If I were a supreme court judge, I would have to vote against Trump. But I'm no lawyer.

You realize this is just his opinion, right?
That and $5 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbuck's.  :harhar:

AFAIK, Mr. Neuman is not a Supreme Court Justice, so his opinion is noted but has no authority.
I would much prefer the actual Supreme Court make a ruling, and then we will abide by it.
If they rule Trump's EO to be unconstitutional, then so be it, that's their job.

An X is a has been and a spurt as a drip under pressure.

:coffee:

These are the so-called experts who also contended Roe v. Wade was settled too. And here we are. Now, that said Roe was an inordinate stretch with ZERO language in the constitution supporting or prohibiting it and citizenship is a bit more concrete with some actual language.

Let's adjudicate it so we can abide by it.

As far as I know both are still in all/most of their children's lives. I couldn't give a shit if they aren't still with the wiminz. They usually wind up nuts anyway.
