I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

Quote from: neurosis on February 21, 2025, 12:10 PMHoly fuck, Jim. What do they call Supreme Court decisions?  "opinions of the court"?

In US v. Wong, the Court ruled on the basis that the parents of the plaintiff were already citizens.
It did not specifically rule on whether the parents were here legally or not, because 'illegal' immigration was not even a thing back then.
Practically every immigrant who came here from China came through a legal port of entry.

Now, because of MASS ILLEGAL immigration, there is a huge difference between 1873 and today that ONLY the Court can clarify.

So yeah, Mr. Neuman has a right to his OPINION on the previous court decision, as to whether it applies today.
However, that decision can and should be expanded upon or clarified to address the illegal immigration issue of today.

Trump's EO will practically force SCOTUS to at least look at the issue, and hopefully provide some clarity on this specific aspect of it that was not an issue back in 1873.

Quote from: neurosis on February 21, 2025, 12:51 PMI do remember a day when the  right at least had some integrity.
You must be really old to have first hand memory of Theodore Roosevelt.
I' give you Eisenhower for the interstates, civil rights act, and warning of the outsized military-industrial complex, but for that bit about the 1953 coup in Iran, and setting in motion the Bay of Pigs failure.

No, I searched "only once" to find the airplane joke to give credit to the posting member, and this thread was also a hit.  Ran across the comment about integrity on the right and it made me laugh, really hard.  Like almost fell out of my chair.

Sort of like saying integrity and politics together.

Also, it's relevant, in a reap-what-you-sow sort of way.  Be a dick for a year, and then try to go on holiday and get booed for showing up.  And then of course the big head-scratcher (for lack of a mirror) :  Why are they so mean to me?
