Quote from: neurosis on February 28, 2025, 02:18 PMThis wasn't a negotiation to begin with. He want's Zelensky to lick his boots and keep his mouth shut. Zelensky is obviously upset that he's getting no guarantees out of this.

Trump is right though. Zelensky has no cards.

Sooo Trump Lies??

Or Z has no cards??

Make up your mind. :D

I don't blame Z for fighting for his country, he just shouldn't have done it on TV. Maybe it's good they got stuff off their chest and talk again.

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

Zelensky might have no cards to play but I've always admired a good "last defiant act"

Just my opinion, but I'm betting that Trump admired that more than he will let on, publicly.

I think often how native American chiefs admired fierce, brave fighters whether they were winning or losing against them. Read Blackhawk's autobiography sometime. It's worth it just for that

It didn't look like an act of defiance to me. It looked like he was trying to tell them that Putin can't be trusted and giving them a history lesson so they understood why.

When did we start trusting Putin's word?

Is it worth more or less, than our own goobermint's?
And the UN etc - ask Cypriots about the UN allowing Turkey to invade and keep their land....oh, Kissinger was the one that allowed it. My bad....

Not the place. The meeting was about the minerals only.

For the US it was about the minerals only but for Ukraine it's all interconnected. Trump says they have no cards to play, but the truth is the minerals might be their only card. The US doesn't want to have to buy those minerals from Russia.

This is just my opinion but if zelensky wants to put Ukraine  first, he's right to get the best deal he can with any play he has left. His financing is drying up. The war is ending. He has to try to get what he can, while he can.

I agree with him Putin will keep trying as long as he is alive.

The ceasefire agreement was to come later though

Sure, Zelensky flew all the way over here to kiss the ass of a guy who is kissing the ass of Putin.

Trump has made pretty clear the U.S. is not backing Ukraine any more. Why would Zelensky just give the U.S. the rights to the minerals under those circumstances?

I agree Zelensky should get the best deal he can now, but I don't see why anybody would believe the U.S. has any place in his best deal anymore.

Europe and Canada are still pledging to support Ukraine. It seems clear to me Zelensky's best play might be working with the countries who continue to support his country.

And really, doesn't it strike people that demanding mineral rights for support given by the previous administration is just a slimy play on the country that Russia attacked?

Wouldn't be any talks if not for Trump.
