It's been a while since we've had a stock market thread and it seems it's time to start watching closer.

Surprisingly, to me, the market has been pretty stable considering everything going on in the government, especially with Musk.

I know many people have thought Trump was just blustering to get a better deal, but it's really come to pass now. Other countries are retaliating with tariffs of their own.

The stock market's not liking it today. My finance guy recommended a few days ago to not make any moves but I'm getting a little nervous  .

If the tariff wars start a new round of inflation, which is looking very likely, there will be no piece of mind had by sitting on the sideline.

"If" has a generous amount of hope in it. I don't see how we don't end up with more inflation.

I've got enough supplies to last me 2 years on meat. I get free eggs. Will never buy another vehicle and enough weed for a lifetime. I'm set. 😝

A savings portfolio should have the same components. Enough cash/bonds/moneymarket to endure a downturn. Survive on that while stocks are down.
But you still need the equity portion to keep up with inflation and longevity risk.

52... Hopefully 7 years out from retirement.
Rule of 72: with a 10% average yearly return, portfolio should double every 7.2 years.

Boomers for the last 20 years: Gov spending and National debt are out of control.

DOGE takes on gov fraud/waste and stock market takes a hit.

Little scary out there. -5% pullback for the S&P 500.. But the backdrop is concerning. He's starting a Trade War while at the same time we're still not in the clear with inflation.

Potentially this could morph into a more sinister market.

Who knows? Not me.

So there's this 27 yr. old 'analyst' on Seeking Alpha. He's posting, "when there's blood in the streets, BUY! I'm picking up bargains!" S&P 500 off 5% from its all-time high. "BLOOD in the streets!"  ::)

lol (slow your roll, kid, you never lived through a bear market before. A real one, the kind that destroys wealth).

A lot of the high flying momentum stocks he's referring to have fallen far harder. He's thinks, "they can't fall much further from here..." (hopefully he doesn't learn the hard way)

Plenty of stocks performing well. Consumer staples, aerospace and defense, utilities hanging tough.

A lot of great stocks getting a haircut. Keep a watch list, buy small amounts on red days. Accumulate with caution.

Doesn't hurt raising cash, especially when you can get a 5% yield with safety. BIL (around 4.7% yield..after expenses) VUSB (a 5% yield after expenses).

But remember to not disengage. Stay focused. Don't panic but stay prudent.

It's probably just a small correction. I hope.

Missing the best 10 (?) market days in a year will destroy your returns.
Prolonged inflation will destroy one's retirement.
