Who killed the Oscars

I could care less about the Oscars .
I don't think I've ever watched them, but I found this essay interesting anyways.

Synopsis right here;

QuoteTop Gun: Maverick, for instance, defied every rule used to justify the emptied-out movie theaters and the lackluster box office. For once, Hollywood made a movie people actually wanted to see. It gave them what they wanted instead of what they should want. Similarly, there's a reason that Taylor Sheridan has not one, not two, but three hit series running simultaneously on network television—namely, that people are clearly hungry for the types of storylines and characters that he reliably cranks out.

This X eleventybitrillion!

Hollywood writing is shit. Hollywood characters are shit. Hollywood story lines are shit. Nearly everything Hollywood is shit!

It's not your fault really. Art has always been a little difficult for our right leaning friends.

True, what the left calls "art" is frequently very weird.

Yeah.

Last movie I went to see based on Oscars hype was The Crying Game.

Using the Oscars as a viewing guide is more miss than hit for my tastes. It seems if you go back in time they used to do better.

The list below starts at 2020

Best Picture Oscar Winners by Year (Academy Awards)

Like I said....

For example, Brokeback Mountain absolutely should have won Best Picture in 2004 over Crash, but the Acadamey is filled with a bunch of homophobic right wingers.

That may have been partially true in 2004, but it is clearly not the case today.
30 to 35 years ago, I took an Academy Award as an endorsement that a film was worth watching.
Today, the inverse is true. An Academy Award makes it certain that a film is not worth
the price of admission or 2 hours of my life to watch it.

Why? Because it has 2 gay guys in it?

Best Picture in 2004 was LotR: Return of the King.

Brokeback Bucky was 2006 awards.
