So, I have a mahogany Martin 000-15. It sat in its case for several years. When I got it out, it had dried out considerably. The neck had shrunk causing fret sprout. I'm afraid some of the bracing may have come loose but I haven't checked; it's just fairly common with this. I've worked on electric guitars some but not acoustics.

I think the first thing I need to do is get a humidifier and try add moisture to the wood and see where it is with the fret sprout and everything.

Did you try and PM Tyler?? I mean he works there. :)

I wasn't being a smartass. I just think he may understand your issue.

Last I knew he was with Taylor, but that's a good idea.

If I remember correctly Tyler worked with the Mahogany Guitars in detail.

Also would be nice to know how he is doing. Tell him Incog says "Hi" :D

Del.

I have a hydrometer sitting by my guitar to monitor humidity. I turn humidifier on when it gets below 40%.

I'd like to learn how to work on it myself. It is a nice guitar but it not like it's a 1940 D-28, so if I completely trash it, it will hurt but it will be worth it if I'm successful.

That's what I did with electrics. I bought a 2013 Gibson SGJ which, frankly, was ugly. I stripped it all the way down to bare mahogany, gave it a clear, natural finish and upgraded all of the hardware and electronics. I did all of the work myself and had a lot of fun doing it.

I know acoustics are a whole nother animal, but I would like to try. The way I learned to work on electrics was google and youtube. That's how I learned most of the coding I can do also, lol. The one thing that really scares me is doing a neck reset but I'm hoping it won't come to that.
