Quote from: Smit on March 19, 2025, 09:18 AMThat's a very Republican way to rationalize it.

it's the left that is rationalizing. They are rationalizing ruining a company that helps the environment, in order to do what exactly? What's the goal, here?

I'm not the one rationalizing. I'm just observing the irony, that the left who would deface the Mona Lisa to make a statement about the environment are also willing to ruin a company on the right that is helping the environment.

Of course you're rationalizing. Then you're picking up your wide ass brush and painting "the left" with it.

Before everybody knew what a whacko Musk was "the right" wouldn't have been caught dead in a Tesla.

Why was that do ya think?

Now that people do know he's a whacko the people who were his target market don't want his cars anymore.

Musk will be fine, I think he's got enough money to survive the downturn in his company. He's doing a huge disservice to his stock holders but he doesn't seem too concerned about that.

Hmmm...let's compare that to a company like Anheuser Busch and the Bud Light beer. They support a position "the right" doesn't like and "the right" boycotts their "beer."

Do you even know what rationalizing means? LOL. boycotting is a lot different than setting someone's personal property on fire. or doxing the people who bought one, for the purpose of intimidating them in to selling them.

Tesla's stock is plummeting because people don't want their cars. That's a boycott. That's what is "ruining" their company.

It's only different than the Bud light boycott because there's not a whole bunch of angry people talking about it.

Make up your mind what you want to talk about.

Burning cars = bad.

Not buying cars = fine.

Larry,
I think you quite often paint the opposite side with a wide brush as well.  I consider myself pretty conservative and voted for Trump all three times.  Do I agree 100% with everything he says or does, of course not.  However, I do agree with a lot of it.  I was seriously considering purchasing a Tesla model Y a couple years ago, but I like to drive to my vacation destinations and having to stop every few hundred miles for a 45 minute charge wasn't feasible to me.  As for the Bud Light boycott, it doesn't even compare.  Conservatives may have quit buying Bud Light, but they didn't deface product or vandalize stores where it was sold.  No guns were fired, or fires started, just a boycott.  If lefties just boycotted Tesla, this would not be an issue.

I wouldn't buy an electric for those reasons also. The charging issue is huge. Not until the infrastructure is in place to support travel like that, and the time required is reasonable. Although while we're discussing it I've heard with high power recharging stations the time to recharge is getting much lower. But the infrastructure is going to be delayed one hell of a long time now.

But to your point, I disagree, not buying Teslas is exactly like not buying Bud light. It's a boycott of a company (or person who is the face of the company) who supports something you find abhorrent.

It's the wide brush thing. We all use it to some extent.

It's not "the left" that is burning cars. It is a very small percentage of people burning cars.

To say "the left" is for burning cars is using a wide brush, wouldn't you agree?

it's about the same as saying the right is racist.

That's true. To say everybody on the right is racist would be painting with a wide brush. Although I haven't seen any documentation to back it up I would even go so far as to think the vast majority of the right is not racist.

See, common ground. :)

Do you think the vast majority of "the left" has burned Teslas?

Del.

That bad man Musk who just bailed NASA out rescuing the astronauts after 9 months in space. He's just a wacko.

Your boy Biden and liberals are the ones who can't build enough charging stations after mandating EV's.

Viva la Trump and Musk. Men who gets shit done.

Musk is great at running SpaceX. I wish he would stay out of government.

I didn't say the left are for burning cars, but the people doing it are on the left.  I would be shocked if any were on the conservative leaning side of things.  So Yes, if someone were to say "The Left" are for burning cars that would be a wide brush, but saying people burning cars and shooting up dealerships are on the left is not.
