I have a lot more conservative friends than I do liberal. Most of my friends are rural area rednecks who work blue collar jobs. I rarely see them discussing or even thinking about social security until it becomes a hot topic political discussion. All of a sudden they jump on the "social security is ponzi scheme" bandwagon right along with the "taxation is theft". Ironically, a good number of them don't have any real retirement savings and are barely able to pay their bills. They are going to be relying on Social Security for their retirement right along with the rest of the "parasites". I'm wondering if while they're living off of those Social Security checks, they'll still be complaining about Social Security.

Do you really think that ending income tax is realistic? I'd be curious to hear the break down of how that would work out for the Country.

And kudos for not getting caught up in politics.  The ONLY place I talk about politics is here and that's mostly for entertainment value.

when they started it, there were 30 workers paying in for every recipient

today there are 4, plus,  a large percentage of recipients never worked or paid into the system
They are riding for free on the backs of those who worked their whole lives.

My contribution to SS started in 1971 and there were a few lean years, but I never missed year.

I have one year blank on my payment record, but that was because my employer discovered teenage girls and cocaine.
He ran his company into the ground and failed to pay a penny of the money he withheld from our checks for
Federal, State and SS withholding.
