It's not like I can say - Thank god Washington State has no income tax. Now I can finally save for my retirement.  Our State is considered to be one of the most repressively taxed

Yeah, you're not wrong.  I'm no expert, but getting rid of income tax nationwide couldn't be a bad thing for the taxpayers.  Some states will have higher property tax, but you live where you can afford to.

SS is great and dandy, but again, I'm not going to depend on it to keep me afloat.  Hell, I'll probably Retire In Place

Some context to that clip would be nice. Was she talking about 150 year olds collecting benefits, or people gaming disability, or?

Something tells me that they wouldn't be on board with what's happening right now.
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

If a person invested a $100 a month from age 25-65 you would have $1.4 million on an investment of $$48,000. I wish I had understood that years ago.

Once again....

Nobody is saying we shouldn't be trying to cut waste and fraud, and increase efficiency. We should always be trying to do that.

This thread is an excellent example of doing things that won't improve either. Do you think shutting down phone support to force people to go to offices, coupled with shuttering offices is going to make things more efficient?

You are holding on too tight to the 150 year old thing. You know that government is inefficient.

Why don't you wait until you see that happening for real. Have you ever tried to call SS? It is frustrating. I'd rather go to the office personally.

Lol. Been there done that.

Calling on the phone is frustrating. You'll likely be on hold for hours, it's well documented. I've been to the office personally, 1/2 hour before they opened, to find a line 100 yards long numerous times. And to be told to make a phone call to make an appointment. But they're only accepting appointments for very limited reasons so you're back in that long ass line.

Bottom line is it's already like that. What are they doing to make it more efficient?

A little transparency would go a long way to making people feel better.

Not any more you don't!  :hrhr:

I hope you have a valid passport!

mowens

So far, I have been able to do everything I need for ss online. My passport has expired, which really puts a damper on my extensive international travel.

Are you receiving social security now? Just wondering.

mowens

Yes. I started when I turned 66 and 4 months. I still work full time.
