Jack Dorsey lays off about 8% of the company

240 "remote workers" in California
80 Managers

Quote... the layoff hit software engineers hard but also included workers in human resources, product, legal, recruitment, marketing, design and compliance.

I'll bet some DEI folks were part of that.

The job landscape is definitely changing in the tech industry. :o

I write all of our automation interfaces and cell control software in C#. ChatGPT has been a very good resource for improving old applications and developing new ones. However you still need some understanding of OOP programming to know what to ask it. I can see how fewer programmers can produce way more code a lot faster, but for now a human programmer is still needed.

A good chunk of workers getting the pink slip were "under-performers".

At least the private sector isn't afraid to keep the meritocracy going to a certain extent anyway.

EVERY organization has them... even the highest performing organizations on the planet with the strictest of screening processes ALL manage to accumulate some turds.

Government workers should not be allowed to unionize  with the exception of a few very high risk job classifications. The CBA's have protected untold numbers of shitbirds.
