Quote from: YoDoug on April 16, 2025, 08:41 AMYou think you were being clever by using my debunk of fact checkers against me, but in reality you just showed how every fact you post could be subject to your biased manipulation.

No, I didn't, and no, they can't. I seriously think you don't know what a fact is and are not able to distinguish fact from analysis, conjecture, or fiction. Having a conversation with you is like trying to reason with a five year old. Or Jeff.

Quote from: Jeff on April 16, 2025, 09:17 AMNow ask them WHY they're against it. You won't get an answer.

If we're talking about tariffs, because depending on where this goes, it could end up costing me thousands of extra dollars a year in added taxes, tank the economy, decimate my retirement, lead to a recession, and there is no guarantee that this will pan out. Of the dozens of economists I've read regarding tariffs, the ONLY economists that agree with the haphazard way Trump is doing this, are the guys telling him to do it.

Pretty much all the posts I've made about the tariffs tell you why I'm against them.

What am I for? Maybe not pissing the entire globe off at us, including our allies?  I'm not sure what we hope to accomplish by doing that?

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

These logic of these so-called "expert economists" is part of the reason for the $37 trillion deficit.

As for pissing off the globe, do you suggest we just sit back and continue to let the rest of the world fuck us on tariffs? They can charge exorbitant tariffs against us but when we tariff them or match them it's bad?

Unfortunately I believe it was my generation. Late Gen-X, MAYBE early Gen-Y. (I'm not late GenX thank god)
It all started in the late 90's with the "we don't keep score" bullshit, "Everyone gets a trophy", "Time out" for punishment instead of a smack on the ass, and what I think is the biggest pussification of society....everyone wearing a bicycle helmet.

Quote from: mowens on April 16, 2025, 07:29 AMGeez, I don't remember doing any of that.
Your generation did it though. And the previous generation let it happen.  That's the disappointing thing about this mess we find ourselves in.

I was talking to a guy trying to get some experience mass production hydroforming done here is the US. . NOBODY does it. It's all in Taiwan and China. It's just so frustrating... we "could" do these things but nobody really wants to, or it's now prohibitively expensive to do so.

Nearly half of Gen Z workers say that Gen Z workers are the most difficult to work with.

We have a couple of Gen Z kids working here. They have the attention span of a gnat and I don't think it's possible for them to look away from their phone screen for more than 15 minutes at a time.

Oh man, one of my operators CANNOT put his fucking phone down.
He's on it from the time he clocks in until he clocks out.
WTF is he doing all day, every day on that thing? Bitching on a forum?   ;D

Seriously though, I've caught him a number of times on his phone while the machine was waiting for an operator to swap out parts. We're pretty lenient on the phone issue as long as you keep the machine running.
Some of them have resorted to an ear bud so they can chat on the phone with their wives while working. As much as I'd love to smash all of their phones, it's not my call.

Side note... is there a way to (legally) block a cell/wifi signal in a room like the bathroom? They love to sit in there for 20-30 minutes playing on their phone.
I saw that there is a paint you could use but that's super expensive.

That's a new one for me too, glad I didn't meet those parents when I was young, cause I was a little prick and would call out BS when I sniffed it. Got me in trouble more than it got me out, lol.

We have a no cell phone policy in our shop. A decade ago it was enforced. Today, if you catch someone on their cell phone and give them an ultimatum, they will just quit. That screen time is more important than their job.  It's crazy.

We've had people make excuses "I need my phone in case of an emergency".  I have to remind them that there were no cell phones when I started here and we had emergencies back then too.

Now, the boss just tolerates it and doesn't feel that he has a choice.

Occasionally the boss will walk in to the bathroom and shut the light off. If he sees a glow in the stall, there is a stern talking to.  It's passive-aggressive, but funny.

The "in case of an emergency" excuse is not really valid.

You can get a smart watch that will tell you if you get a phone call or text.
