Does anybody use a range finder app on their android that will tell you how far to the pin, center of green, something like that?

Rather than buy a special device for that info I'd think there is an app that would use the smartphone GPS to give the same results.

TIA!

That is a great idea for an app. Use satellite images for tee/green placement. Use GPS location for distance calcs. Maybe add in a drawing feature for calculating dog legs clearings, etc. Charge a small fee to unlock each course in the app. If this hasn't been done before it could be a good money maker.

A quick search shows there are quite a few golf apps that use GPS and satellite data.

Del.

I don't think a range finder will help you as you shank it.

I will eventually but I'm such a bad golfer, right now I'm investing money in lessons to try to get my drive swing fixed! :(

I didn't know you could do that with Google earth.

there is a swipe up screen at the bottom of the app. swipe up and measure in feet, yards, miles, etc.

I use it a lot for shooting or building fences and things like that.

The main reason I want it is to locate the tee boxes for the 80+ year old golfers so I don't want to spend a lot of money for that.

It won't really help my game much, all my clubs (on average) will hit a ball about 100 yards.  :wallbash:

I'll ask the kid to verify, but I think you just need a Garmin smart watch($$$) and the Garmin golf app(free). The Garmin software has course maps for nearly every golf course on earth.

You just select the course and start playing. When you approach the ball after your tee shot, your watch will display the distance to the pin. After you play for awhile, it will even suggest what club to use for your next shot.
