We're back to "the art of the deal" portion of the Tariffs.

Auto industry tells Trump that tariffs on car parts will mean 'layoffs and bankruptcy

The US auto industry is an empty shell compared to what it was 30 years ago.
It could shed every job that exists today and that would be a tiny number compared to what has been lost
under the old ways. In the past, all the tariffs were one way.
No tariffs for foreign manufactures selling in the US, ruinous tariffs for US manufacturers exporting cars.
Canada charges ridiculous tariffs for cars built in the US.
You can buy a Ford or Chevy in Canada, but they were built in Canada. A Ford or Chevy built in the US is too costly.

Speaking of factory jobs.

I heard this on Monday... It was hilarious, but is it accurate?

I think that we're about to re-enter the "This will create jobs" phase of the tariffs.

The art of the back peddle didn't work.

I'm just happy someone is finally trying to reduce the trade deficit.

Would you deal with someone who publicly insults and attempts to bully you, or would you say, f-it, and try to make a deal with someone else?

I was kind of surprised to hear that Trump extended that olive branch. I wonder what China wants at this point?

I'm of the mind to let him do what he wants to do. He's the President! I'm not judging his methods like you are.

Speaking of binge shopping prior to tariffs, I back-ordered a Chinese turbo before trumps big announcement.
Just came in this week. Thing is really well made and with a billet impeller all for under $400.
What would the quantities need to be here in the states to have any chance of profit? Or better yet regulations to allow such nice castings

Ultimately - we've all been up against (chinese) state funded manufacturing - free materials for starters, which historically is average around 30% of costs (talking simpler parts)?
But how can you compete in the kitchen fittings, bedroom fittings etc against this - none of these parts will ever be returned to our shores.
China may loose them to (cheaper) India and (cheaper still in the future) Africa....but the Q is WHO is driving this.
And we all do know the answer - Fink even tells us - it's the great off-shorer's doing their bit to "nudge people and make more profit".
The bastards
