Wasn't there a Trump trade agreement with Canada that included those dairy tariffs?  If he didn't think that was fair, why did he agree to it in the first place?  :headscratch:

Because a marathon starts with a single step.

Our trade "partners" have been abusing our generosity for decades. They've been protecting their own interests meanwhile exploiting ours.

I don't blame them. The time for more equitable trade is upon us.

I don't know about now, but those dairy tariffs have been in place for years
there are tariffs for cars, timber, wood products oil and natural gas as well

I believe Stellantis (Dodge) just shut a truck plant in Canada down.
They built the plant years ago to beat the tariffs on US cars.
The Canadian version of the UAW went on strike and Stellantis, shut the plant down.

I've been following this as it's just across the river from Detroit, and the company I work for has plants in Canada as well. Looks like it's not a full shutdown yet:

We do love a good strike action up here, if it's not the mail it's someone. Had a local company (non-manufacturing) go on for almost 7 or 8 months, one of their guys is here now, nothing but horror stories. Union=never around these parts. Allegedly the 5 families, as it were, back in the 70s or 80s got together and agreed to drive out anyone that whispered union, as far as CNC shops go. And there has never been more than zero presence to my knowledge.

We have not seen a slowdown up here yet, we've got enough work out past Q1'26 slated. Biggest change has been in material pricing/availability and tooling cost. 304 bar/plate last I heard was a little tough to source this week. But for tools we've been moving to a local(ish) manufacturer, DeBoer, for some time. Harvey went full bore on tariffs, so the bosses said only go to them if we absolutely need something fancy and small.

All in all doesn't seem to be shaking my proverbial maple tree at this point, gas is cheaper than it was 3 months ago, my grocery bill hasn't gotten any bigger. Answer might be different in 6 months if things catch up, or tariffs increase. Who knows?

Quote from: Newbeeee™ on May 08, 2025, 04:58 AMYes, however....IMHO, this was and still is, a strategic decision by the owners - ie Fink (Blackrock mouthpiece) even admits it - "our job is to nudge changes"
Strategically, "they" (well above Fink the mouth) have wanted to manage decline in our countries, while building (taking control over) the far east. Greg mentioned Nam - maybe in our lifetime, maybe not, but they'll do it slowly to China next - the work will go to Nam etc, and ultimately to Africa.
Unlimited hands there who all want to chase the buck....

My 401k is 100% Blackrock and every quarterly dividend is higher the the previous one. That is one company to throw some money into.

Don't worry, they'll find something negative about it to nitpick. Like Trump did it while breathing, and did you know Hitler breathed oxygen also?

A marathon starts with a single step. Not a popular sentiment, but the fact still remains.

We complain about stuff that takes a minute, meanwhile China is locking up ALL the rare earth minerals on the planet and has been working on it for close to 30 years and nobody is really talking about that. That's not going to be a problem.

Lost = Gavin NewScum. Nothing else need be said
Created = Biden Admin printed money like crazy.

Someone took the time to combine a before/after from the MKC. It looks like the guy deleted his original videos and came back and released an explanation - I assume he got some blowback from the MAGA crowd on this.

I don't like the title they put on reddit, but I thought that this was a good fit for this thread.
