I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

QuoteWhite House deputy chief of staff for policy Stephen Miller said Friday that the Trump administration is "actively looking at" suspending the writ of habeas corpus — the right to challenge the legality of a person's detention by the government — for migrants.
Or better stated; illegal aliens.

Fuck those that fail to wait their turn to enter the country.

Obviously, they're talking about suspending part of the constitution. So, uh, for the constitutionalists among us:

constitution of convenience?
constitution unless I don't like part of it?
constitution when I want and not when I don't want?
constitution for me and not for thee?

:D

Leave it to Trump to turn constitutionalist in to liberals.  :D

I've been pretty consistent my whole adult life concerning the Constitution; it should only apply to citizens. Come to this country illegally... #NotSoMuch

This is just my opinion (I think that you've been mostly consistent) I think that if we're going to choose who we think constitutional rights apply to, regardless of what the law says, then we shouldn't complain when our constitutional rights get taken from us.

When they use language like "suspend" when it comes to a constitutional right, and you support that, then you don't get to complain when one of your constitutional rights are "suspended".

If they want the law changed, then change it.

I feel like this is going to open us up to an attack on our rights in the future, and anyone who supports what's going on right now isnt going to have a leg to stand on when they complain about it.

When someone willingly breaks the law and enters a sovereign nation, there should be no protections for them beyond basic human rights.

When a law abiding citizen has their enumerated Constitutional rights infringed upon, that should be a separate discussion.

The part of the 14th Amendment that is being looked at (rightly so IMHO) is if someone is in this nation illegally, are they really under the jurisdiction of the state? Since they have not followed the law themselves, why should then enjoy the protections listed therein?

I respect your opinion, but it's an opinion.

And I get it.

The only way to legally do that are in cases of rebellion or invasion.

I agree.  Rights violations are the worst.

Not what you're talking about?

Del.

Up to a couple months ago I wasn't aware illegal immigrants had Constitutional rights. I don't see Supreme Court ever considering the Constitution is breakable without an amendment to replace it and that would take a long time. It says what it says albeit they never thought about 10-20 million illegal immigrants. Impossible also to take that many before a judge or court. It's a predicament for sure.

Del, you're right.  Some here should just look into our laws.  I can't understand...  If I were to just "show up" in let's say, Mexico and do some illegal shit.  The best thing that could happen to me is to be deported lol

Invasion... excellent choice of words. I'm trying to find a more fitting word to explain "immigration" between 2021-2025 and I cannot come up with a better word.
