Here's Johnny!

Adding my stats here.

I thought eating a reasonable diet and working hard day in day out I would be okay. I could outwork almost anyone. Was showing my children at Christmas I could easily still do 25 pushups at 57 years old.

On January 13 I went to work and felt normal. Was making a one off part on the CNC lathe. About 11:45am I go get a 5 gallon pail of vacuum pump oil and carry it back to our shop for a customer. By the time I got back to the shop I was gasping and had a crushing pain in the center of my chest. I went directly into my office and sat down and got 2 (81mg) aspirin out of my backpack (have always carried these for decades). I chewed them and the pain subsided. I texted my wife and said I swear I was having a heart attack. She tells me to go to the hospital. Me being me I had to finish the part first. The pain started to return as I was packing up to head to the hospital so I took another aspirin. I then carried my backpack out to my car and decided to walk over to the hospital (about 15 min walk). I get to the top of the parking garage ramp and couldn't continue. Called my wife and she convinced me to put my pride in my pocket and call 911. I called 911 and they arrived within a few minutes. The paramedics gave me 2 more aspirin and did a couple of ECG (while sitting on the side of the road where they picked me up). After the 2nd ECG the paramedic got the defibrillators out and taped them to my chest and told me not to panic. In my mind I couldn't figure out why they weren't taking me to the hospital. Turns out they were working directly with the catheter lab (bypassing the er at the hospital). 43 minutes after calling 911 I was being wheeled into the catheter lab at Toronto General Hospital. My main LAD artery was 100% blocked. So I survived the widowmaker heart (only 12% survive these).

I had zero out of six risk factors to have a heart attack:

Cholesterol was 1/2 of a normal person 2.37

I have never smoked

My blood pressure was normal

My weight (167lbs) was light

My blood sugar was normal

No family history of anyone 55 or under having a heart attack.

4 weeks after the event I went for a checkup and had a ultrasound and ecg and bloodwork. Cardiologist declared I was good to return to normal life. Fast forward to the next morning and I get a panic phone call from the cardiologist, the ultrasound technician didn't alert anyone (protocol says they should alert the doctor) that I had developed a blood clot inside my left ventricle. This started a 3 month regimen of daily injections of blood thinners (almost finished these hopefully), my wife has been administering these for me!

I have a history of provoked blood clots in my legs over the last few decades (one in 2000 in my left calf and one in 2015 in my right calf). I have now had some genetic testing done and believe they found something (get the results tomorrow).

Turned 58 in early March.

Following a really lean diet currently. I eat homemade oatmeal with chopped fresh berries and apple every morning. For lunch I have Greek yogurt with a chopped banana and berries. Eating chicken (boneless/skinless) chicken most nights. Limiting my beef as much as possible. For snacks I have unsalted peanuts and apples.
