I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

When I was in USMC boot camp, I allowed my left knee to touch the deck while doing pushups and a DI stomped on the back of my knee.
That put me out of action. I was offered a discharge, but declined.

I spent 3 months in the medical rehab platoon, healed up and went back to training.

Next door was the fat body platoon. My God, I felt sorry for those guys.
Nothing to eat but lettuce, PT and runs all day and all night.
There were also a couple of hundred acres of Quonset hut pads left over from WW2.
The buildings had been torn down but the concrete pads remained.
The fat body platoon and the correctional custody platoon spent 4 to 6 hours a day with sledge hammers
breaking up those concrete pads. I'll bet they are still at it today.

The requirements for graduating from the fat body platoon were getting your weight down to spec and doing one pullup.
Not many succeeded.

My son in law, a Marine, tried to convince his chubby little brother NOT to join the Marines. He didn't listen and singed up.

Kid was about 5'-9" and 200lbs. Recruiter told the kid, come to daily PT with me. You need to be under 175lbs when you arrive at boot camp.

The kid didn't listen. He crossed the scales at like 195. The USMC was like, no problem kid, welcome to the USMC diet plan.

They rationed his food at every meal. Not just until he hit their target weight, for the whole duration of boot camp.

Kid weighed like 140 by the end.

Yep.

The kicker is, only 18 months in, the USMC got rid of all their armor. His MOS was tank mechanic.

They offered him to move to the Army or take a discharge. If discharged, he'd be eligible for all the benefits(mainly GI Bill) as if he served his whole enlistment.

Since no self respecting Marine wants to be a soldier, he took the discharge.
