I know a lot of us on here are getting up in years and it's beginning to affect our health. Also, people are dealing with serious medical issues that may or may not be age related.

I got test results from my latest echocardiogram and, fortunately, chances are I'm not going to keel over dead in the next few days. I have a leaky valve in my heart that we're just going to monitor; my thoracic aorta has been enlarged a while but recently went from 4.2cm to 4.6 cm, which is not a lot, but if it gets to 5cm I'll have to see a surgeon. Both my carotid arteries have 30% blockages. Nothing will be done until it reaches 70%. I have all of these things that are beginning to happen, but nothing is bad enough for insurance to pay to fix. I've had cataracts for a while but they're not serious enough for insurance to pay to fix. Meanwhile, I can't read instructions on packages and can barely read street signs. And, I'm beginning to have kidney issues.

I know I am very lucky that I don't have anything worse going on with my health.

Still, getting old sucks. It's like death from a thousand paper cuts.

Easy surgery, no clue how much though.
My mom had both her eyes done when she was 80. Funny thing when she was able to see clearly again she laughed and didn't realize how dirty her stove top was lol. That's the big takeaway she got from it. She got a kick out of that.

MY MIL had that done. 82 years old and she had eyes like an eagle.

Me @ 70

computer glasses
regular glasses
sun glasses with separate subscription for driving

all those glasses are expensive and I still can't see well
surgery may be cheaper in the long run.

If it makes you feel any better, my Dad had his mitral valve fixed the first time about 20 years ago (open heart procedure at the time) and did well after the usual recovery period. About 5 years ago it was starting to leak again (I guess they wear out after ~15 years usually) and they were able to fix it by going up thru his femoral artery....wow! He's doing well at age 84, knock wood!

Wishing you good things in health and life!

My son who'll turn 40 this July, playing deck hockey last night took a tumble and dislocated his right shoulder,  tore the labrum, broke a bone... looking at surgery to repair...

Of course I had to rib him about getting old and it might be time to retire 🙃 😅

Knock on wood, just some high blood pressure (managed by a single pill once a day) and glaucoma managed by 2 eye drops per day. But I'm only 55.

Doc says if I stop drinking coffee...

Yeah... not gonna happen. If it's the coffee that does me in, so be it.

Just found out I most likely have Serotonin Syndrome. I had a particularly tough week at BJJ and my neck muscles were crazy stiff and sore. Normally I take a THC gummy to relax and sleep. I was all out so I found an old pill bottle of Hydrocodone (we keep prescripts in our safe) and took one. After maybe 20 minutes my stomach started to hurt. Then proceeded to massive crippling pain for about an hour. I threw up multiple times. Then a short while later it was like it never happened. Supposedly for some rare people opioids release dangerous levels of serotonin and one side effect is massive muscle spasms. Guess from now on I'll just stick to THC.

How much coffee do you drink a day? Purely curious.

I was using a capsule machine up until a few months ago, and bought a small home espresso machine. I find I drink less coffee now, as there is more work in making one, but it is better coffee out of the machine, and as a benefit, cheaper :)

My daily caffeine intake is ~200-300mg. A single "regular" cup of coffee is ~95mg.

Homemade is DEFINITELY better. I get whole bean from small veteran owned coffee company in Tennessee; Frontier Coffee Company. He's a retired green beret that served with one of my company's regional VP's. I get the Zulu Roast.

I have a Baratza Encore burr grinder since I can't afford a Kafatek Coffee Grinder They are one of my customers. Even at the good guy price they are pricey. But worth it for the hardcore espresso affecianado.

I get beans from a local supplier, with their particular Oomph brand :) I've got a general consumer brand machine and grinder, but it works well for the price. In fact, I struggle to tell the difference between a bought barista coffee, and my own (and I am no expert :) ).

Cant beat the smell of a freshly opened bag of coffee beans....mmmmmmm

I buy my coffee from a small company in Boise, Idaho and drink one cup a day.
It's a 22 oz cup though, so I guess purist would say I drink nearly 4 cups a day.

Yeah, my "cup" is WAY closer to 20oz than 8, so yeah, "cup" is relative I guess.
