Quote from: MIL-TFP-41 on June 02, 2025, 09:15 AMIt is the future of war, drones. The cost of these FPV drones a few hundred dollars each. F-35? 100 million.
Breaks down to you can buy 200,000 drones for the cost of one airplane, and that doesn't count the maintenance cost on the airplane. 200,000 targets...you might be able to take a few of them out, there is no way you are going to hit all of them.

and to the younger generations who have grown up playing video games, piloting these drones is as natural to them as walking.

The US Army discovered this in Iraq,
The casualty rate among .50 caliber machine gunners standing up in the turrets of HumVees and such were unacceptably high.
The Army had always resisted remote control turrets because of cost, weight and especially training/gunner effectiveness.

After trials with remote control turrets they discovered the kids were more effective with the remote controlled
turrets than they were shooting them old school, line of site.
Having grown up playing video games, they were naturals on remote controlled gun turrets.

My son in law was one of those gunners standing up in the turrets. He hasn't talked a lot about it except to say convoys he was in hit IEDs three different times.

Me too. Now he has a 7 year old and a 2 year old, both girls. It's heartwarming to see this big, intimidating looking guy (who just achieved his goal of dead lifting 505 lbs, twice his body weight) with them. He's a great dad. I just wouldn't want to be the boy who has to meet him for a first date.

the old tactic of cleaning the .45 at the kitchen table when he shows up for a first date usually separates the men from the boys.

I like the tactic of the spent shotgun shells on the mantle with names written on them, and an unspent one ready for the next boyfriend...

Another part of me is wondering how many officers in Russia will fall out of windows this week. Accidents like that seem to happen a lot over there after big events like this.

Anyone who's ever spent any time on youtube watching Russian road rage video's know that Russians are crazy.  :D

King Alaric I made it into Rome on just such an agenda.

Been wondering what it's going to mean in a ground war with NATO. These Russian soldiers have been in a shooting war for the past 3 years, plus on and off since 2014. We have, for the most part, no experience with that kind of foe (a large country with experienced soldiers). A lot of their combat veterans will be pretty damn grizzly, pissed off, and stubborn. And I think they'll be more likely to volunteer to fight the US rather than kill Ukrainians.

I don't think they have many combat veterans.
The Russians are so short of men, they have stripped highly trained technicians from service units to serve as cannon fodder in meat assaults.
Their offensive tactics are very expensive in terms of manpower, especially since they are running out of tanks and armored vehicles.

Russia sucks at logistics.  Can't win a real war with shit leadership and poor planning.
Russia IS great at intelligence and propaganda ops

Years ago we had a sudden wave of Russian immigrants flood in to the City I live in.

There was a nice little fishing hole at a local river that had a high bank. You had to have waders and stand in waist deep water to fish there, we thought. There would typically be 10 - 15 people lined up all being respectful of one anothers fishing lines. We were fishing for Coho Salmon.

That fishing season, about 20 Russians showed up on the bank with fishing gear that you could land a shark with. Treble hooks and massive lead weights as "bait". They stood on the upper bank and all started casting over the heads of the fishermen below just ripping their lines through the water. Tangling up everyone's lines, snagging fish.

I decided to leave before a fight broke out.  As I was walking off, one of the fishermen below started cutting their lines. I saw the Russians start pulling out hand guns and yelling at the fishermen below. lol. I was glad I decided to leave when I did.

That was the craziest crap I'd ever seen fishing on a river and I've seen quite a few squabbles over the years.
