No wonder people don't want to have children anymore.

One for Yodoug and his thanos theory,  I read a report yesterday that said by 2080, they predict that the world population will start to decline.
QuoteThe findings? For the bottom 60% of U.S. households, a "minimal quality of life" is out of reach, according to the group, a research organization focused on improving lower earners' economic well-being.

"The gap between what Americans earn and how much they need to bring in to achieve a basic standard of living is growing, according to a new report.

The analysis, from the Ludwig Institute for Shared Economic Prosperity (LISEP), looks beyond whether people can afford daily necessities like food and shelter to consider whether they have the means to pay for things like the technology tools necessary for their jobs, higher education, and health and child care.

LISEP tracks costs associated with what the research firm calls a "basket of American dream essentials." The group says its Minimal Quality of Life index provides a truer picture of how Americans are faring than standard economic data, such as the nation's gross domestic product and jobless rate. The index captures the annual change in the typical costs facing low- and moderate-income households who are looking to maintain a basic quality of life. "

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

Well, look at certain populations and they're breeding quite fine.

People who actually have to afford and raise their broods are mainly the groups not having children.

Based on stereotypes, I would have assumed that it was the other way around. But you're right.

This!
I see it in the UK and Spain and have no idea how those groups afford it...

Same here with the cost of living, out of reach for many people, a lot of GenZ are not able to afford apartments and continue to live at home

Just wait until I get in to the number of Americans who are living off of and defaulting on their credit.

You say that I'm depressing, but this isn't my fault.

I don't know everyone's individual case, but some people are having to rely on credit to pay their bills

I would be curious to know what percentage of those people are broke because they chose to buy a jet ski they couldn't afford.

I have zero debt because I chose not to live outside my means. I do without a lot of things but you can't miss something that you never had?

70 percent of people who went to Coachella this past year paid for the 700$ tickets with Klarna/Afterpay, there is definetly some doom spending too

A lot of it is the rent, it's unaffordable in a lot of places, houses are out of the price range of the majority of people

The average rent in my area is $2000 a month.

I live in community that is a mixture of condo's, homes, and apartments.  A 2 bedroom apartment in this community is between $2500 and $3000 a month.

When we have hit the point that people are buying daily staples on credit and fast food on pay as you go, you have to know that the wheels are definitely coming off.

There is an older guy at work who eats out twice a day. I have no idea how he can afford it. He must spend easily $40 a day on fast food.

He's about as healthy as you would expect.

I'm not a picture of health but I do try to eat healthy. It helps that I have a girlfriend that is very health conscious when it comes to food. Left to my own devices, I would probably be worse off.  :D

It's not cheap to eat healthy.

It's not cheap to eat unhealthy either,  though that bill may take a bit longer to come due
