I was having trouble with my 15 year old washing machine about six months ago
I called a guy I knew use used to be a Samsung repairman.
He put a new door switch and related parts in it for $350
It worked for about 4 months then started acting up.
The drain pump was not working properly and I found out that if I drained it, waited about and hour
and chanted the magic incantations it would run. That worked for about 2 months.
I called the guy again and he put a new drain pump in it for $240. That didn't work.
Then he decided it needed a new main board $500 new of $100 from ebay.
It became clear that guy didn't know what was wrong and was going to throw new parts and my $$$ at it till
something stuck. I had $590 into it no washing machine.
I sent him packing and bought a new machine.

That's hard to deal with.

In My older age I have figured out or figured near, The option to say Fuck it ahead of time.

there was one other factor to be considered.
sometime in the next year or so I will retire and we will get the fuck out of this shit hole state.
It costs a fortune to move from west to east because everybody is doing it.
I did not want to buy new appliances and then pay to move them east a year later.
My goal was to scrap out the old appliances when we leave and buy new back east.

speaking of shit hole states... our gas tax is going up 62 cents/gallon 07/01/25.

A few years ago on one of the hottest days of summer I had the exact thing happen. I could hear the AC buzzing but never turned on. I knew that was most likely a capacitor. I opened the cover and saw the bulged top of the capacitor. I got online and found one 20 minutes from my house for $14. An hour later my AC was working.
