Loading programs to go through would be a BIG issue here....

Loading programs to ChatGPT if you are ITAR is a no, but using it to make a utility that searches programs locally on your network to extract and organize data is perfectly fine.

I use it to write VBA macros's to create setup sheets, Search the network for tools, all kinds of stuff.   Recently made one for the floor that will find all tool numbers in a program and list them then you enter the new tool numbers in the box net to them and it updates then saves and a new .NC file.

I played around with it a year or so ago trying to get some Macro B stuff figured out in a hurry. It defiantly pointed me in the right direction. Then recently I tried again with another routine and after a few prompts, it gave me pretty good code right off, with little edits after.

pretty impressive really, its not like Macro B is a common thing.

Pretty much everything here is CUI or higher, no go for me.  I don't machine anything anymore, so doesn't help in that aspect.
I've used it a good bit for outside of work things tho.  It is progressing really fast

I like the people who say "give me the answers gork".
Gork, is the opposite to Grok and much more palatable

Quote from: YoDoug on June 26, 2025, 05:22 AMThe other day I uploaded the Renishaw inspection plus manual for Okuma mills. I told it the locations and sizes of the features I wanted to probe and whether to adjust work offset, tool offset, or record size and it got the program nearly 100% correct. I only needed to add a few prep calls at the beginning. At the rate this is progressing, in a couple years you will be able to upload a print, ask some questions and get a program.
The prints will have to not be scanned images/pdf's.

I search prints for values and characters.

What LLM do you use? I did the same thing with the Renishaw Inspection Plus manual and it was 75% wrong. It must be how I query.

I used OpenAI o3-Pro. I got in on a pro subscription when they were running a $40/yr deal a few months ago. The pro subscription is now like $200/mo.

As for scanned images, it will eventually be able to work with those. You can upload a picture now and it can describe the picture very accurately.

Not a ChatGPT fan.

The answers I got for some easily Google searched things were complete shit. I know it's come a long way since then, but I was just like "if you can't get that right, what else are you going to fuck up, that is going to burn me?

AI was made for funny shit.  The Bigfoot ai videos are really funny

The thing that scares me about AI is when it's wrong, it's insidious - everyone here is a professional (Incog maybe a professional man-about-town but that's a different thing).  When people use it for subject matter they know nothing about, they don't know when it's wrong and proceed like it's the bible.

Jeff

I've been using it lately to help me with golf. I don't swing like Rory anymore and my iron distance has suffered.
I'm seriously contemplating on getting a professional fitting done and after giving it all of my basic info like height, swing speed, age, and told it the clubs I'm currently using it gave me 6 choices of iron sets and very detailed reasons as to why each set could/would help me. Ping, Callaway, Titleist, TaylorMade, Cobra, etc..
Then I refine the choices down from there to the TaylorMade Qi HL set with a certain shaft, I then asked it to compare to my current set.
It's quite impressive.
This weekend I'll probably go test hit those clubs if they have a shaft close to what I need.
