Let say i get an MX-330.

I then put a 1.5"? ish thick adapter plate with a 2"ish tall Schunk vero module.

On that i put a 1.5" thick fixture/pallet.

With this stackup i theoretical still have 7.0"ish inches in the max work volume listed on the brochure.

If I were to machine a part out of 5x5x12 (12" along x) billet that is mounted onto the pallet and needed to access all side unobstructed, will i run out of Y and Z axis travel on this machine? How usable is the whole work volume on these machines? I like the large Z Travel and the offset Y axis stroke but the offset stroke on the X you lose some volume it seems like.

I will definitely be maxing out the work volume on this if i get it because i'm too poor for a MX-520  :'(

Oops forgot to add... calling @CNCAppsJames

I'd contact them and ask them how far the spindle is from the table when it's kicked at 90 deg.

YoDoug

We run into this in our Genos M460-5AX. With the base plate, Schnuk vero s, pallet, and fixture, we only end up with about 5 inch max part height before we run out of Y travel when the table is tipped 90 deg. Luckily most of our parts are less than 2" think.

Do people prefer the table style of tilting toward/away from you over tilting left/right?
I would imagine you'd have a lot more room to access tall parts that way.
We have the M460 5 axis also. You run out of space very quickly.

We have both the Genos M460-5AX and MU-4000 here. They are the same table size and very close on work envelope. The MU is a little bigger. To be honest, while the MU is a higher end machine, for what we do the only real advantage is the bigger ATC (64). That is why we bought it versus a second Genos 5X. We don't do a lot of full 5x machining, mostly 3+2 so the benefits of the MU are not realized by us. The MU does better with chip evac for long unattended runs and also has a bigger coolant tank.

You have 310mm total to work within @A-90 (tilted towards the operator door) on a 250mm Table machine

That's about .400 more than the Okuma M460 with a 400mm dia table at 90 deg.

Seems like they have done a bunch on these machines to optimize work area access around the trunnion compared to other offerings.

More questions:

-Will the standard Mosnic Lift Up chip conveyor work good for aluminum fines or are there better options?

-Has anyone added the BK Mikro in-magazine tool check to these machines?

@CNCAppsJames If i get this machine it would be through selway, is there a way i can request you for training? Maybe make it part of the conditionals on the PO? ;D

I think i put this thread in the wrong section, can a mod please move this to the industrial....
