Although, I never thought that Matt was a liberal?

If you look, they do tons of phycological studies. To be fair on this, this one makes just as much sense as the other does to me.

"Antihierarchical aggression refers to a specific type of hostility aimed at challenging or opposing hierarchical power structures or authority figures."

Which political party supporter is more likely to post ACAB, and boot on the neck anarchist crap?

;D  I never said I agree with it. I already told you my experience.

I don't know. Maybe I lead a sheltered life because so much of my life experience comes from a church community setting. But that said, if that leads me to have a more positive outlook of my community than people who don't lead the sheltered life, I'm happy to stay sheltered. Honestly, I don't understand why everybody wouldn't want that for themselves.

Well don't peek at what's happening outside your sheltered little world then.

There's some ugly shit going on in this country that might damage your psyche.

Yeah, thank god your life can be sheltered.

Too bad Israel and Palestine didn't have faith based communities to achieve a more positive outlook - whole thing would've been figured out!

Quote from: Smit on July 23, 2025, 07:00 AMThat would seem to blow a hole in your simple red/blue view of the world.

despite what you think, I really don't have a red/blue view of the world. I do often speak in generalities because, by eliminating outliers, you can get to core ideas between the left and the right. In a political environment where there are essentially only 2 parties, I don't think that is unreasonable in political discussions, although it is obviously imprecise sometimes.

If you want to understand my world view you would have to study and comprehend the writings of Paul in the New Testament to fully understand. But most people don't really like it when I talk about that here. but the basic tenants are to Love God with all my heart and to love my neighbor as myself. I believe in the dignity of every human being from conception to death. Red and blue doesn't play in to that at all, except that I disagree with both the Democrat party and the Republican party to varying degrees in how they wish to achieve those things. And I often find myself having to prioritize one belief over another in order to vote.

I have donated hard earned money through the catholic church to help the people in Gaza. Sheltered is not the same as uninformed.

my goodness! how do you read what I am posting so differently than how I mean it. All I meant to say is that in my sheltered world, I don't dislike people because of their political beliefs. And if that is not obvious to you by now, I honestly don't know what else I could say.

Sure. I like some parts of the Bible too. I just discard the stuff that doesn't fit my needs.

I don't mean to pick on you personally Beej. As you say, I'm speaking in generalities.

I expect you see there are many people who boast of their religion while espousing some pretty hateful stuff.

that's your choice, I can't make myself discard things from it. The more I understand it, the more I discard my own errors, which are plenty. One thing that has become more and more obvious to me, in reading it. There were 2 basic political parties in Israel at the time of Jesus. the sadducees and the pharisees, Jesus had more common beliefs with the pharisees, but he did not align with either party and eventually they worked together to have him killed. More and more, I find myself at odds with both of our own political parties as well. Hopefully I won't get kilt over it.

It's great to hear someone articulate this sentiment, especially here in front of what often seems to be a tough crowd!

The world is really a much more beautiful place when you can see the good in people as readily as you can see the bad, but that doesn't sell newspapers or mouse clicks, so the media-saturated environment we all occupy has been crafted to benefits their interests, and not ours, unfortunately. To look for-and find-common ground among differences undermines this environment, and likely takes a bit more effort than most of us are willing to muster!

I bet if we all spent a little more time engaging with others "in real life", and a little less time consuming "news" we'd have a more favorable view of people and the world at large, as well.

More later, when I'm a little more awake!

I have wondered myself if it gets through. The catholic church has hospitals, shelters and food pantries in Gaza. Cardinal Pizzaballa is both the bishop of Jerusalem and Gaza. My guess is that he has some way, maybe covert, of getting that aid in there.
