If I ever find this fucker, he's fired.

Who keeps putting chipped taps back in the drawer = I don't know.

Who keeps putting chipped end mills and drills back in the drawer = I don't know.

Out of the 3 mill operators, none of them do this. Isn't that strange?

I did find out who "somebody" is.

Operator came up and told me we needed another end mill for a repeat job because somebody put one back in the drawer chipped.

I said "who ran that job last time?" He said that he did.
I then said "hello somebody".... the only job I've programmed that end mill for is that certain repeat job that he has ran the last 3 times lol. He still denied it.

One of the things that drives me insane is people trashing a collet, they grab a new one, but put the old one back in its place. I get it, when a 1/8" endmill breaks in a ER-16 collet, it will sometimes fuck up the collet. Throw the fucking thing away.

For some reason people like to save trashed cutter bodies too. Grab whatever hardware it still good off the thing then throw it in the steel bin.

I hate it when someone blows up a one off. hard to get cutter body, drops it in the trash and doesn't tell anybody.
6 months later when you set the job up again, you're screwed.

and I really really hate thieves.

I kept having tools I knew I bought and made sure they were put away not be there when the job came up again.

Then we had a $20K probe for our Okuma 5X HMC go missing.
It's got a 170 station magazine and the shop foreman had all the tools pulled out to give the magazine a good cleaning.
When we were done and putting tools back, the probe was gone.
We looked everywhere, but it wasn't here.
The foreman started looking on ebay and found one for sale for $2K.
The same seller had lots of tools for sale, and many of them looked familiar.
The pictures of the tools were taken on a kitchen table and he figured out who it was
because someone recognized the mother fuckers kitchen.

He bought the the probe and had it shipped to a friends address.
The serial number matched to our missing probe.
The thief would not come clean. He was fired and the cops were called.
Apparently this POS was the storefront for a ring of thieves stealing from big shops
all over the area.
The cops had a really good case but our GM would not prosecute because he didn't want our
off site owner to know how bad this POS fucked us.
As far as I know he got away with it.... he's even working in a shop right down the street.

Wow, that takes balls.
Do you have cameras throughout the shop? It's nice because people usually forget they are there after a few weeks.

I tried to get Nick to talk to you about what he saw... he seemed afraid. Can't blame an 18 y/o for having the desire for self preservation.

I'd rather be told you "screwed up" than to ask and then find out "you lied to me"

The lying is easily the worst of the two transgressions

Unless of course you have plausible deniability  :D

Zoffen

When you ask your HR person why they hired these fools, do they respond with: "No not me, I didn't hire them!"?

Possibly there's something in the water?

same thing happened when I was a programming manager at an OEM defense company.  except we did prosecute him!  he had been doing for over six months.  and had been doing it at his prev work also.

We have operators that are scared shitless to man up and say they scrapped a $20 part or smashed a carbide boring bar. They'll shove the bar back in the drawer and grab a different one.
We always tell them to man up. Yeah we'll be upset for about 15 seconds then it's water under the bridge.
We'd rather know instantly because then we can order a replacement instead of 3 months down the road setting up the job only to find out that the bar is smashed to hell.
That is way worse.
