My 23 yo daughter is currently working on a BS in mech from Mankato State in MN. She is interning this summer at my work. She and another intern are building a robot cell with a UR robot to load pulleys into a press to get bearings pressed in automatically. Right now they are all done manually, about 25,000 a year. It's cool to be able help her with programming questions and see the figurative wheels turning in her head and then see her light up when she comes up with a code solution for the robot. She would hate that I shared this pic, but I'm going to anyways.

This is the good stuff. Mech students with actual experience doing something hands-on? Your kid will go far, must be pretty cool to have fostered that into existence! You have every right to be a proud dad

My boy is 4, and I can't wait to share my passion for making parts with him even more. He constantly wants to visit the workshop to see 'the boys' already, so we're on track.

That's Awesome.  When i owned my shop i would have my son and daughter there often ( they were like 3 and 5 at the time )  one day i my daughter was watching me load a mill and grabbed my hand and pulled me to the side of the machine and pointed at the chip barrel and said "Poop"  took me to second to understand and then i laughed out load as she called the machines monsters and they ate what i put into them and pooped it out.

She is doing final testing and debugging today. A human can do a full tray in about and hour and a half. The robot takes about three hours, but only takes about five minutes of human time to load for a full run. Here is a quick video of the final project. I sped it up 2x for quicker viewing.
