My grandparents were able to purchase a 2 story, 4bdrm house on 2 acres on a coal miners salary. This was in Wyoming and don't ask me what year that was. They raised 4 children on a single salary.

Now they did grow and raise most of their own food and the 4 kids worked their asses off on the farm when they weren't in school.

I'd bet that many businesses (not just machine shops) here in the Valley do work for venture-backed companies. I heard something interesting the other day from an occasional customer who is venture-backed (and is trying to get funding for a "C" round)-if you don't have something related to AI in your business it's tough sledding evidently....it's all getting sucked into AI.

I have no clue why anyone is cozy and happy with the state of our collective economic future in the 1st world. It's not a partisan issue,  "it's the best system we got, sonny boy", "what do YOU plan on doing?" and "but real socialism has never been tried" are absolute cop outs. NOBODY knows what to do or how to wrestle power from the oligarchy we all live under knowingly or unknowingly (ignorantly dismissive of?). But that doesn't make the current path righteous, and sure, becoming a 24/7 surveilled techno-serf is super great as long as we have phones, robots to vacuum and burgers.
