I want zilch to do with Hybrid or electric only

Yes, I'm a troglodyte
Unless you are still driving a carbureted vehicle, that horse has left the stable.

Growing up my mom's hand me down Oldsmobile would keep running diesel style after you pulled the key out. Mechanical fuel pump, carb and healthy compression...
It was a family joke how long it would rumble in the driveway until finally dying. 😁🤣

I had to replace my hotrod Volvo last year
It was 12 years old, had 90K on it and was in near new condition.
It was also burning oil as in a quart every 3 tanks of gas.
When I was a kid, Volvos were legendary for lasting 250K miles.
Apparently modern Volvos use ultra thin cylinder rings which improve gas
mileage, but seriously degrade engine life.

Shopping for a new car was eye opening.
There are lots of 3 and 4 cylinder engines outputting less that 200 hp.
6 and 8 cylinders are reserved for Mustangs, big Dodge 4 doors and trucks.
I ended up with a AWD Mazda3 hatchback with a 4 cylinder turbo @ 250hp.
It's fast enough to keep me happy and get 26 mpg.
Its pretty small and my wife hates it, but I wasn't going to spend $50K+
on the Acura she wanted me to buy.

My current car is gas only and it gets 40mpg on the freeway.  I have a long commute to work so good gas mileage is priority 1 for me.

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

Yeah, my Altima I average 34/mpg...the Rogue not so much I only use that when the weather calls for it or mine is in the garage...RAV4 will see that same schedule

... I am going to look at a Toyota RAV4 that will be somewhere in the $35k range.
...
You'll love it. Make sure you get an AWD version though. I have a 2018 and it's a great car. Fits all my gear regardless if I'm going to the range or going to commission a new machine.

Quote from: JParis on August 14, 2025, 06:14 AMI'll make the purchase that I "need" to make and not the one I would "like" to make....and I'll keep putting that remaining $$ money away towards retired in 5-7 years

I was at a point in my life where I was tired of just getting what I "need". I had paid off my car and was going to buy something anyway. I thought that if I didn't do it now I never would. The 6 speed manual transmission is more fun than practical. It now has 94000 miles on it and I don't regret buying it, even with it's 14 mpg. Plus the "guard metallic" color is beautiful.

Like I said in another thread, I'm an idiot with money.

$77,000 !!!!
6 years ago, a mate who was Eng Manager at an ex customer, nearly bought the latest Mustang but instead upped his car park street-cred by lease-purchasing a Beemer X6.
End of 3 years he decided to return it instead of opting to buy it.
That cost him 35k but his car sure looked kewl in the car park....

Bring on the 6mpg big blocks

A few weeks ago I driving in my 400hp 25psi boosted Mazdaspeed. Pulled up next to guy in an early 70's cutlass. Smoked him with the AC on, and I still get 25MPG on the highway.

Could be worse, you could think of me as a wanker!

Seriously though, I would love to build a FC or FD RX-7 with a nicely boosted 13B or a NA 26B rotary. I figure I have about 5 to maybe 8 years left of real Jujitsu left in my body. After that I will focus my hobby time to build a nice project car.
