I guess the auto-pilot feature isn't quite ready yet?

Sad story, but what a couple of morons.

QuoteThe Tesla vehicle, a 2019 Model S, crashed into a tree and burst into flames, according to the reports. One person was found in the front passenger seat, and another in the rear passenger seat.

Based on a preliminary investigation, police told KPRC 2 they believe nobody had been behind the wheel, but they have not finished their investigation. A preliminary probe was not conclusive.

I saw this in my newsfeed actually, very sad, they shouldn't be so trusting, an ai operating heavy machinery, not smart. :secret:

How sad.

I wonder if being at the wheel would have made much difference. Certainly if the operator was in the back seat, he would have been unable to reach the pedals, however even if he were in the driver's seat, if he trusted the machine to safely navigate the turn, it's doubtful the operator would second-guess the auto-pilot in the split second necessary to avoid the crash.

I got a Volvo XC90 loaner a while back when my car was in the shop.
It came with the latest greatest self driving features Volvo offers
It was capable of staying in one lane at freeway speeds
and was self driving in traffic jams at 20 mph or less.
I tried both features.
They worked but I was not comfortable and doubt I would ever use them on a regular basis.
Being around hi tech machines most of my life, I know they can and will fail eventually.
I don't think I could ever relax enough to let AI pilot a my car.

My car does have distance managing cruise control.
In moderate traffic you can set the cruise control and it will maintain safe distances
from the cars in front of you.
It does have flaws though. It will hit the brakes hard if someone pulls in front of you.
The AI has no awareness of what's following you .. so you could get rear ended when some jerk
swaps lanes right in front of you.

except the autopilot doesn't turn on if no one is in the seat, and also requires the street to have lane lines for it to even turn on, which the road they were on did not have.  That car also did not have the Full Self Driving package.  So these two could have done the exact same thing in a freaking Ford Taurus, and they would have had the same result.

Teslas with autopilot engaged have been 10 times less likely to be involved in an accident than people driving any other car without AP.

So this was either a suicide or a very complex murder.  :secret:  :secret:

From what I read that car didn't even have the self driving option.

I'm sure that was the autopilots fault too, at least according to the media.

Big auto companies have even bigger advertising budgets. Tesla pays zero in advertising and closed down their PR dept.
This is the long and the short of the FUD lies in media.
Smart people that were paying attention, have been made millionaires with YEARS of FUD suppressing stock prices.
Wish I was paying attention earlier.

pretty clear lies in the media. NTSB blew up the narrative.
I wonder if this could be considered extortion and or malice, since Tesla is the only automaker that doesn't advertise.
