my all time favorite lines from any movie

"Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs.  I am haunted by waters."

"My father was very sure about certain matters pertaining to the universe. To him, all good things—trout as well as eternal salvation—come by grace and grace comes by art and art does not come easy."

I saw that on cable back in the early 80's, I don't remember it much.
My favorite movie he's in is The Sting.

I saw Jeremiah Johnson at the theater. Still one of my favorite movies. I've watched it so much, though, that I have a hard time watching unless I can just fast forward to the good parts.

The movie was based on a real person, John Jeremiah Johnson, also known as Liver Eating Johnson. According to legend, though, the movie had it backwards. The Crow did kill his Flathead wife, but he went on a vendetta against them. The story goes that he would kill and scalp Crow warriors, then eat their liver.

"Rumours and legends about Johnson are common. Perhaps chief among them is that in 1847, his wife, a member of the Flathead American Indian tribe, was killed by a young Crow man and his fellow hunters, which prompted Johnson to embark on a vendetta against the tribe. According to historian Andrew Mehane Southerland, "He supposedly killed and scalped more than 300 Crow Indians and then devoured their livers" to avenge the death of his wife, and "as his reputation and collection of scalps grew, Johnson became an object of fear."[3]

May he rest in peace.

Redford was one of my favorite actors since watching Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid when I was probably 6-8 years old.

All is Lost is a great film which didn't get the recognition it deserved. The movie was about a man lost at sea. While Redford was the sole actor and the movie has virtually no dialog, besides the occasional curse, it was riveting, and testament to his skill playing a character.

+1, An absolutely amazing film. One of very few that had me choked up in act 3, can't recommend it enough. I have not seen much of his work, but this is a standout in my mind!
