We had a Makita rep drop off a test tool today for our operators. They have programmable torque impact drivers. We have 6 mills that have hundreds of fixtures that have Mitee Bite clamps and some homebrew wedge clamps. We have been searching for something to make it easy for operators to get consistent clamping. The test tool they dropped off is linked below. They have a usb port on the tool and you set the speed, torque profile, and max torque for each direction from your puter. Then it auto shuts off when max torque is reached. Anyone here use these, looking for long term feedback.?

That's cool.

My son sells Hilti tools. They have a 1/2" cordless impact that can scan the barcode on a package of their fasteners and tighten them to the correct torque spec.

That's interesting. Is it adjustable in ft pounds or is it just a setting, like 1-20?
Ive been looking for something like this that does relatively low torque, like 10ft/lbs.

Ive been looking for something like this that does relatively low torque, like 10ft/lbs.

It is a 1-** number setting for torque. The rep set it up and he knew the conversion to in/lbs for the number settings. We have it set to 110 inch/lbs, which is just under 10 ft/lbs. We had the operators manually tighten the clamps like normal, then we used a manual torque gage to see how much torque needed to loosen the bolt. That gave us our starting point for tightening torque. We also set the CCW direction to about 150 in/lbs so it doesn't have any issues loosening. Additionally we set the CCW RPMS to 150 so the bolts don't come all the way out after they break loose. So far I am impressed in the level of settings. It also has Wifi and can be run in conjunction with a program to verify that the right numbers of fasteners were tightened each part if needed.

Milwaukee has a similar system except its Bluetooth and can be setup with a phone app. It's called OneKey. Been around for a few years now.
