Speaking of working sick, vacation and whatnot; last year sucked for me.

I have been religious about taking my vacations since Bill roasted me about not taking one the first year at Selway. Anyway, last year my wife and I were scheduled to go on a 2 week vacation but the place where we were scheduled to go had draconian isolation rules that would have nearly doubled the cost of the vacation and we would not have been able to go out until our 3rd to last day there so we canceled. I only took a couple other days off. I get 5 weeks vacation per year. I ended the year with 4 weeks still on the books. Our company policy is if you don;t use your vacation it gets paid out at the end of the year. You can bank up to a week so this year I have 6 weeks.

When I had COVID, since I was workign remotely anyway, I never even took a sick day. FOr about a week I was napping between around 11:00am and about 1:00pm then I just worked later into the evening than usual. Customers never suffered. If I had to go into an office then I would have had to take sick days. I've probably claimed 10 sick days in 15 years. On average over my career of 30 years now, I probably take 1 sick day per year.

Used to be that as long as I didn't have a fever I'd work. It's how we all used to be. Now, I think some still operate that way. I leave it up to my customers. I have allergies... April and May are usually the most challenging for me. Most customers are good with it. I've got a few that don't want to see us if we have itchy watery eyes. I'm good with whatever. I'm just not taking that f'ing jab. For ANY reason. NONE of those shitbirds have made a good argument for me to get it. I'm starting to lose count how many times I've been exposed to it now.

Yeah... they don't work like that. I think it was an Eye Dee Ten Tee problem.

Me too.

I can Pert much talk you through them.

Saturdays is Grit TV till football starts. Sometimes it's Laramie or solid John Wayne.

Alot of the older ones with Audie Murphy. I love them.

The whole finding employees thing is a worldwide problem. We have it down here too. To many young people who think the world owes them a regular, fat paycheck, and for no effort.

The upside is, that it keeps me busy, and in work. But, I weep for the future of manufacturing in general.

We're lucky, I have one young guy, fresh out of school who is a hard worker, enthusiastic, and inquistive. And frugal. Makes his own lunch, and hates the idea of buying it. At 18, he is a rare type of person, but he is shaping up to be a great CNC Operator, and eventually, a programmer. :)
