Quote from: BrianP. on November 11, 2022, 07:45 AMThe other two one was for an added 4 percent punishment tax on successful people who earn over a million dollars and the other gives licences to illegals. 3 passed one didn't.

Question 1 was FAR more insidious than just people making more than a million dollars, sell a house, a business, anything that generates that amount and you get hit.

and Massachusetts has forgotten her heritage

A punishment tax?

An illegal alien license?

Nice unbiased reporting there chief.

First, from what I know, which is what you've just said, I'm against punishment taxes and illegal alien licenses.

Having said that, I expect there's more to it than what you're telling us. Another side to the story maybe? Amirite?

https://www.axios.com/local/boston/2022/10/14/massachusetts-drivers-license-ballot-question

QuoteMassachusetts passed a law in June to let immigrants without legal status obtain certain driver's licenses. Now, repeal efforts have led to a referendum on the legislation.

Driving the news: Voters will decide on Question 4 at the polls in November. A "yes" vote would preserve the law. A "no" vote would repeal it.

Why it matters: Massachusetts became the 17th state to expand driving privileges to immigrants without legal status, but it's one of the only states where such a law has faced a repeal campaign.

Details: A "yes" vote would let undocumented immigrants apply for a standard driver's license — not the REAL ID license that will soon be required to fly domestically and enter certain federal buildings.

They would need to provide two forms of ID. One could be a valid, unexpired foreign passport or consular ID, and the other could be a birth certificate, national foreign ID card, or a U.S. marriage or divorce decree or other document, per the legislation.

Like everyone else, those applicants would need to pass a driving test to get the license and obtain car insurance to register a vehicle.

The law that was passed in June after the House and Senate overrode Gov. Charlie Baker's veto prohibits the Registry of Motor Vehicles from asking about an applicant's immigration status.

Yes, but: It also requires the state to create regulations that stop anyone who gets a license without showing proof of citizenship from automatically being registered to vote.

What they're saying: "This is profound for [undocumented immigrants] given that immigrant communities are now going to be able to do things that we all take for granted, simple things such as being able to drive your kids to school, going to the doctor, going to the grocery store," says Roxana Rivera, vice president of 32BJ SEIU and co-chair of the Driving Families Forward coalition.

Before the law passed, the coalition amassed support from district attorneys, police chiefs and transportation experts who said they felt it would make roads safer.

The other side: Opponents of the law say voting "no" ensures that immigrants without legal status aren't rewarded for being in the country without permission.

"We think that granting Massachusetts driver's licenses to illegal immigrants is reckless, and radical incentives like this will only exacerbate the problem of illegal immigration rather than fix it," MassGOP chair Jim Lyons said in a recent press release.

Some opponents, such as Secretary of State candidate Rayla Campbell, have falsely claimed that the law allows immigrants without legal status to vote illegally in Massachusetts.

The legislation and ballot question summary state otherwise.

Here in LaLa Land we had a proposition that taxed millionaires an additional 2% state tax on top of the 13%
tax they already pay. The fuds were to provide more grift to the homeless industry.
I was totally shocked to see that this proposition failed.

Here in Cali illegal immigrants can get driver's licenses
Getting a driver's license automatically registers you to vote
The have procedures in place to prevent illegal from being registered, yet admit
that at least 350K illegal immigrants have been "mistakenly" registered to vote
If they admit to 350K I wonder how many there really are

First I am not "reporting". I am giving my opinion and asking for yours. Second look it up if you disbelieve me. I mean seriously how much can you twist a ballot question? One asks if you want to add a 4 percent tax to anything earned over a million dollars. The second one asks if you want to allow....

QuoteThis law allows Massachusetts residents who cannot provide proof of lawful presence in the United States to obtain a standard driver's license or learner's permit if they meet all the other qualifications for a standard license or learner's permit, including a road test and insurance, and provide proof of their identity, date of birth, and residency.

Twist it any way toyou want. In the end in my mind it is a punishment tax and it will allow illegals to get licenses. That was actually vetoed by our governor but then override by the state legislature.

Edit: We also register people to vote when getting a license. Also the governor correctly stated that the DMV does not have the capability to determine if the documents provided are legit.

however, the DMV itself admits at least 350K have been mistakenly registered to vote
Do some research before you start calling people liars please.

I was shocked at how heavily scrubbed this subject was on Google.
Page after page of search results assuring me Cali elections are clean and fair.
I know from personal experience that they are not.
I did find this on Edge

But it took some work

QuoteCalifornia is one example.  California has the most unauthorized immigrants in the U.S., according to Pew Research, "about 2.3 million in 2014."  As we noted here, California also permits all residents in the state to apply for a driver's license.  And under a 2016 law, those who apply for a driver's license are automatically added to voter registration lists unless they specifically "opt out."

As with other states, California does an inadequate job of maintaining its voter registration lists. Linda Paine, president of the Election Integrity Project, told the Washington Times that "8 of 58 California counties now have more than 100% voter-registration rates based on figures posted February 20th by Secretary of State Alex Padilla."

More than 100%? California's voter lists combine active and inactive voters, explains Paine, and no ID is required when casting a vote.

It's critical that every eligible California citizen who wants to vote can easily register. But the state's woefully inadequate voter list maintenance is creating misleading statistics for our lawmakers and put the votes of lawful voting citizens at risk of voter fraud. ...

All one need do [to vote illegally] is look at the posted list, memorize a name and address, repeat it to the poll workers, and receive that person's ballot, no questions asked.

If an Olympic medal were awarded for best in facilitating unlawful voting, the state would win the gold.

The take away is that 8 of 58 Cali counties have 100%+ voter registration rates and the checks and balances are laughable
