Tipping.

Most restaurants now ask you to tip beforehand as you pay.%18 to %20

During the "Pandemic" Most convenience stores and liquor stores had Tip jars.

Some restaurants actually added a percentage in advance of your purchase %18.

The pandemic is over, tipping is done.

I find it repugnant there are tip jars and tip % on the terminals when all they do is open a cooler or something and hand you your item. No food prep or anything. Including tips, prices have gone up 40% if not more.

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

Here's their tip; buy low, sell high.

My barber (Mike) owns a lil shop 2 blocks from the house.

Small business but fair following. I rolled in yesterday bout 10 he closes at 11. Pull in lot is full so i'm backin out and he is at the door waving two minutes, two minutes. so I'm in and parked. waited 3 haircuts and I was I thought about 3 more back, He calls at me says get up here, I said But !! He says No Buts!!! I seen you out there in line for parking.

Haircuts are $20 I always Tip $5 and pay double the cut before Christmas.

My local liquor store was there in The Pandemic. And they always give me excellent service ,I don't mind a few dollars tip. They earn it dealing with me. ;D

What pisses me off is I go to a restaurant, and they have already included an 18% to 20% Tip.On my Bill.  :realmad:

What pisses me even more is they leave the tip line empty for you to double tip. and don't tell you, you already tipped.

Why would I tip for Takeout?

You provided no more service than required for your job. ::)

I've only seen included tips (usually 18%) on larger groups. That info is usually on the menu somewhere.

As far as carry out goes, there are still people in the back doing the work, it's not just the cashier. So I usually tip 10% when I pick up carry out.

Do you tip at Mcdonalds?? same premise. already being paid.do you tip window #1 when you pay or window#2 when you pick up? :)

And yes I agree if it's a large group or announced on the menu.

What I'm calling out is the unannounced and just me buying.

My generosity is seldom a problem. Their greed is.

I applaud your generosity. I walk into a wonderful bbq restaurant order my food and pay at that point. they swing the screen to include the tip before I have been served and the only options are 18% and 20%.and this is carry out. I disagree with this premise.

and yes the girl turns around and tells the kid my order he serves it and she puts it in a bag??

Tip??

Nope.

We don't tip down here. But then, our waiting staff are typically paid lot more.

But, regardless they've been trying to introduce it for years. And there are commonly tip jars in Subways, and other cafes etc that are self serve. They can gth... :)

I have no problem tipping in the USA and elsewhere, where it is the culture.

My 18 and 20 yo daughters work part time as waitresses while in school. My older daughter makes pretty good money. She work at an Applebees close to where she goes to school. With tips she averages $25/hr and sometimes on weekends it can be quite a bit more. When someone calls in or they are short handed she will take as many tables as she can handle. She said she really has to hustle to provide good service but she will make a bunch of money in a single night.

As far as tips for fast food or non-sit down restaurants, I am not a fan. However, if we are ordering ahead online or through an app I will give them a couple dollars tip. I would rather throw in a few extra bucks in the hopes that they will actually care about making our food right and on time versus them being pissed that they don't see a tip on the order.

anyone know the etymology of 'TIP'
(no google, you cheating bastard)

I have no problem tipping generously when I ask the folks at Jersey Mike's to make me a gluten free sub.  They have to wipe everything down, use a clean knife, change gloves, take extra precautions, etc.  It's extra work, so it's worth extra money, and I'd like them to know it's appreciated.

Del.

I generally tip 20% but if you think about it, a waiter serving you a burger and fries takes no more effort than steak and potato. Not sure why more expensive meals gets bigger tip.

Jersey Mikes is one of my wife's favorites. We try not to eat it often since processed meat is so bad for you, but when we do they have about a 25% success rate on getting her order correct. It makes it hard to tip when you know they are so inconsistent.
