Del.

My wife and 2 siblings are in hell dealing with their Mom 85 and Dad 88.
They had to leave their home and the devil has possessed them. Lol

My wife worked with a woman whose elderly father really became unstable. Things like going outside the house naked, cursing and getting violent and just generally not being rational. This woman had a hard road until he passed.

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

Her mom fell and broke her hip about 8 months ago. She's had 5 surgeries since. Her dad is having dementia and can't remember 10 minutes ago. They had to leave their home they built 56 years ago. Father isn't allowed to drive anymore. They moved them into a brand new home to rent that doesn't have any stairs. The mom can't find some of her things and thinks someone stole them until she finds them. They live an hour away from us. Long story short they act resentful that all this happened and cause tension between my wife and siblings. No way in hell I want to live that long.

You and your wife and her siblings have my sympathy.
Dementia and Alzheimer's are tough for a family to deal with.

When my grandpa was dealing with alzheimers my mom and her 4 other siblings took turns staying the night at my grandparents house so grandma could sleep. My grandpa would get irate at night and my 4'8" grandma wouldn't be able to control 6'2" grandpa. Horrible stuff to have to deal with.

It's hard. On the other hand, our parents put up with us throwing tantrums about naptime and changed our diapers several times a day. We owe it to them.

On the brighter side of things, once they are passed, you tend to not recall these moments nearly so much as the times from when they are younger. Each of my parents had different health problems before they died that made life difficult and stressful, and when each of them died, it felt like a relief as well as a loss. But sometimes, I wish I could have one more cup of coffee with my dad, or one more bowl of soup from my mom.

That's tough Del.

They need round-the-clock care which either a family member or institution will need to provide....probablly both.

It would seem your wife and siblings need to have a talk.

My best to them.

Fortunately if I live long enough my daughter has stated she will smother me with a pillow after 3 days of being incoherent. So I got that going for me.

Wife's mom, early 80s, has really turned into a PITA the last few years. Hard to watch cause her and my wife were always really close. Now my wife can't stand more than a couple hours with her.

Yep. It will drive you crazy. Every time they go to their old house to go through stuff they both break down and cry

To be honest, as I get older, there are quite a few people I feel that way about. Especially, the longer I live alone.
