Yep, reminds me of Wiley Coyote when you state it like that...he pushed the limits all the time =)

Not making fun of the tragedy of the possible loss of human life though. Their families I hope find peace they were doing what they wanted to do.

I gotta end a post like this with "/dark humor" or something like that right?

Nah, not here you don't.

they are reporting that a "debris field" has been found.

At least that means those poor schmucks never knew what was happening.

The company was doomed to fail. The company is literally called OceanGate. I mean who thinks its a good idea to put "Gate" as part of the name of your company??

Del.

BBC confirms it's the sub.

Poor bastids.
I hope they went quick if it imploded.

Sounds like it imploded about 45 minutes into dive.

with pressure like that the time between 'Oh shit" and dead is under a second

WW2 submarines were rated to 350 feet and when their hulls failed the 4" thick steel hulls were crushed flat

This vehicle was probably around 10K feet down.
I'm guessing they were dead before they knew there was a problem.

Another option would be that they got their ballast out of balance and "fell" until they hit the ocean floor at which
time the hull imploded.
That vehicle was criminally underpowered and they had nowhere near enough thrust to regain control if they started to
"fall"
If this is how it went, they were not physically suffering, but they did spend quite a while knowing they were
dead men with no hope of surviving the "fall"

gcode

the press conference has confirmed that it is the missing submarine and that the debris field
"is consistent with the catastrophic implosion of the pressure hull"

You have to wonder; did they do inspections after each dive? Also is it possible to simulate that kind of pressure in a testing environment?

From what I read about what the company president said about safety this isn't a complete surprise

I read that the company that built the carbon fiber hull would only certify it to 6,000 feet
The Titanic is sitting in 12,500 feet of water.

kccadcam

Something like 6500psi per square inch at that depth.
Carbon Fiber has never been tested with enough cycles at that pressure to really know the limits.
They found the end bells made from titanium but the main hull imploded.
At least it was instantaneous.
